“Lewis Restaurant One Year on.”
Reviewed April 23, 2012

Been a while since we have had lunch in the New Lewis Restaurant and my goodness we had missed it. Familiar with the staff and management from past, seem to be some changes in faces but definetely not in standard; obviously due to fine staff training; Efficient, friendly, courteous and imaculately presented in white shirt, tie and smart burgundy aprons. Also all the chefs on display in open kitchen with crisp whites and traditional chefs hats working like a well oiled machine, head chef assembling dishes on pass in full view of everyone, nothing to hide !!
My partner held back on starter but my mussels, a personal favourite combined with the addition of Chorizo was sensational, supplied with a soup spoon to finish off pretty much a second course of mussel/Wine and chorizo was sublime. Efficient time break to take on main. My partner with Chilli chicken cooked to perfection with double cooked chips, only complaint portion to big. My Sea trout with tempaura fennel and cauliflower puri was a reminder of the same course at the Witchery, Edinburgh and as Fine if not better. A meal of this standard at the price was outstanding. We wont leave it as long for our next visit.

Room Tip: Did not stay on this visit but have done on many a stay. Every room individually styled. You wont fi...

We booked afternoon tea in the library but were sent - not shown - brusquely to the dining room. We enquired why we weren't in the library and were told it was full. As this was a birthday treat the ladies were hoping to enjoy champagne or prosecco as advertised on the website but this was never offered or mentioned. Neither was the range of teas also described on the website. A girl arrived with a coffee pot wanting to know if anyone wanted coffee. One of our party did but the coffee turned out to be cold so we asked someone to replace it with fresh coffee. That also had to be replaced! We were then told we could go the library after all. When we got there 3 emply tables were in evidence so I'm not sure why they had a problem in the first place. We were not given our own pot of tea but had to wait until a member staff came to pour out. There wasn't enough tea in the pot so one of us was left with a half full cup of tea gradually going cold while the staff went for a new pot. We asked for it to be replaced when she returned which she did with very bad grace. More delay. There were no teaspoons at all on the table and took some time to appear after being asked for and they are obviously rationed as we didn't get one each. This was a problem because there were little trifles in a sherry glass so we had to go hunting for more teaspoons. Not that this helped because as with previous reviewer the teaspoons are too big for the glasses. We were never offered any top up of tea and the attitude of the staff was curt. The whole experience was very unpleasant. We were ignored by the manager on the day. One of us wrote to the Old Inn afterwards about our very poor experience and to date one month later we have had no response.

My husband and I stayed at the Old Inn on 9 April 2012 for one night. We got the table d'hote package which included one nights B&B and Evening Meal with bottle of wine. When we arrived we went to the Parlour Bar for a few drinks, and unfortunately there was hardly standing room, we sat at a table in the bar and were asked to leave the table as we weren't having food, which was a little disappointing, as we were guests. The rooms though quite small were adequate, we stayed in the Wee Room. However, the evening meal was excellent, we were served by Greg who was very professional and friendly, he chose us a beautiful bottle of wine to accompany our meal and nothing was a problem to him. Breakfast the following morning was lovely with a wide variety of choice to suit all tastes.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Wee Room over the hotel reception which was quite small, if I was staying again I t...

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, including dinner. We were disappointed to see that you were asked to move from the bar area. We will look into that and look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in future.

This is a charming, historic country inn near Belfast. We had intended to go in to the city of Belfast after we arrived, but found it so delightful that we decided to spend the afternoon at the hotel and taking a walk to the nearby beach. There is a lovely wooded park that leads to a long path along the beach. The staff was very friendly and our room ("Buttercup") was beautifully decorated with a brand new bathroom. We had dinner at the hotel, which was delicious (the service was a little slow, however), and the buffet breakfast included with the room also was very good. The hotel is about 10 miles from Belfast - there is a bus that goes into the city or you will need a car.

Stayed here at short notice and booked a well priced room which was really nice. Room had everything you could ask for. Only down fall, restaurant was directly below and the loud music for breakfast started at 7.30am which did spoil our intended sleep in until 9am. Staff great, service great and food excellent. Highly recommend.
