“Unexpectwd surprise.”

Place kind looks like a hole in the wall but it had really good food and service. Has an open flame fire in the dinning area as well.

“Excellent value”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Called here for lunch on Sunday with 2 friends over on a weekend break. We had the choice of sitting in the bar or the dining room, the menu was the same for both. Sunday lunch was £14.50. We all had the prawn cocktail for starters and were surprised by the number of prawns in the serving, 2 of us had the turkey and ham the other the chicken, served with all the trimmings, it was beautiful and again a very generous serving. followed by a sweet, then tea or coffee. The staff are very friendly and we had to wait no time at all to our food was served. Will be back, and would recommend it to anyone

“Bland food...”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

Counter service, decent small town pub feel, comfortable setting. But the food was just so bad it ruined the whole event... The burger was an oily beef patty with no (detectable) spice, no interesting sauces, relish, chutney... a real lack of greens, some cheese and a cheap white bun - seriously worse than McDonalds.

Worse still was their stew, fancy meat boiled in plain water? It was seriously a grey mush with basically just potato and traces of some other veg.

Wasn't cheap either, would avoid.

“Very nice food”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

We have eaten here many times before and the food is always exceptionally good. It is a very homely place to eat and the open fire is usually lit giving the place a warm cozy glow. The menu is varied with lots of choice. It is also very reasonably priced and the staff are very attentive.

“great food, just don't be in a rush”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

We just happened to stop in because it was the first place we saw in Ballintoy. The quaintness was a novelty for us, we accidentally walked into the restaurant/hotel entrance and it felt like walking through the front door of a private residence. We opted for the pub and were directed through what seemed like someone's TV room into the "rustic" pub. The service is not stellar but certainly not as bad as some of the other reviews I've read (perhaps we were lucky, we were there on a Sunday afternoon). The food was fantastic, tasty home cooking in large portions. Everyone in our group was very happy with their meals. So, if you're not in a hurry and don't mind if your server is not trying to be your best friend, I would suggest stopping in for lunch.
