While our stay at Ballygally Castle Hotel was almost a year ago, it remains uniquely memorable in nearly all the best ways. The history is fascinating. The grounds and the views are stunning. The layout of the hotel is functional and yet quirky and unique in some areas. It is a great retreat, a lovely place to escape, and works well for a destination or event stay. Oddly, Ballygally was our second choice; our first choice further inland was unavailable. Despite that disappointment, the ultimate choice of Ballygally was best for all the right reasons. This trip was a homecoming, of sorts, as it was my first visit to Northern Ireland and an opportunity to see the precise region where my ancestors had once lived. We were greeted warmly upon arrival (I believe Scott assisted--he was great!) and I was quite pleased to learn that my surname was familiar locally and by staff. It made me feel more at home to know my family name was still recognized, that it was pronounced correctly by the locals, and that I felt welcomed as an Irish descendant. Our first night there, a local traditional Irish band was performing in the pub area after dinner, and it was quite welcoming. Food service in the restaurant the first evening was a little weak and we had to wait quite a while to place orders and get food. The reasons for the weakened service included a large coach tour of 45 that had stopped unexpectedly for dinner and also a decreased staff due to illness. With those reasons, it was understandable that the wait was longer. The food was worth the wait--delicious--and the wait staff was courteous and attentive. Most of all, I was pleased that there were selections I could eat on a limited diet. The breakfast bar offered a tremendous assortment of options, all quite good, so no one could walk away hungry. It was a great added value attached to a room cost that we considered quite reasonable among the various places we stayed in Northern Ireland and Ireland. The overall package was great. Perhaps best of all was the location itself, steeped in history with great views of the sea and Scotland in the distance. The coastal area was beautiful and it was so enjoyable to walk around the extensive grounds or the beach. We opted for a room with a sea view and were thrilled to be given a tower room in the old original castle. We were just below the Ghost Room, though we weren't disturbed by that. In fact, it made the location even more interesting. The shower in our room was in the converted turret! The room was cozy, the bed was great, and as we fell asleep with the windows open and the salt air rushing in, we slept like babies. I hadn't had a sleep that sound and good in months! It just made the stay all the more enjoyable, and we didn't want to leave. If we get back to Northern Ireland again, I would be thrilled to have another Ballygally stay.

Room Tip: Go for the old castle structure and the towers or turrets, if you can. You won't be disappointe...

Me and my husband called into the Ballygally Castle for food and a drink whilst travelling the coast, the beautiful setting and castle theme is that of which intriuged us! Once we got through the door we were greeted by a lovely young waitress 'Shelley' who took care of us from start to finish and even took us a tour of the castle and told us the history and about the refurbishment! The food we had was fantastic (compliments to the chef) the atmosphere and scenery also made our experience although our greatest pleasure was most certainly the staff especially Shelley, this young lady is a wonderful asset to the hotel, thanks so much for your warm welcome!! Will 100% be back!

We decided to spend a night of our holidays to see how the hotel was looking after its revamp..and boy we were not dissapointed. .after a very minor issue with rong beds in our room which was handled brilliantly and very efficiently by the on duty receptionist with even a complimentary drink whilst the problem was being sorted we settled into the bar for a few quiet drinks which was most welcome after a long day on the road. The room itself was beyond stunning and was spotless with a very large comfy bed..breakfast in the morning had a brilliant selection and the staff really went out of their way for us..only 1 downside we didnt stay long enough :) well done ballygally for another excellent stay

We stayed in the newly refurbished Ballygally Castle hotel for a weekend and had a wonderful time. The room was extremely spacious and comfortable, the bar and restaurant were excellent and the gardens were beautiful. All staff were courteous and helpful and nothing was too much trouble, including arranging bicycle hire at short notice and giving us the Ghost Room tour.

Location is ideal, on the Coast Road overlooking over the sea and close to the Glens of Antrim.

Highly recommended.

I booked Afternoon Tea as a birthday treat for my friend. Our waiter Jackie was just fantastic, he was very attentive and looked after us really well, very professional. The tea was wonderful, we had our choice of fillings for the sandwiches and choice of brown or white bread, we had three fresh pots of tea during the course of the afternoon, everything was fresh and very tasty and the glasses for our prosecco came chilled. Perhaps our only negative was where our table was - in the busy foyer, we would have preferred to be in a more secluded place. All in all a very enjoyable experience that I would recommend if you are in the area. Jackie gets top marks, nothing is too much trouble, excellent service.

Room Tip: Ask for a table looking out to sea or in a secluded area.
