“disappointing lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013

My husband and I took my elderly mother out for her lunch to Ballygally Castle Hotel.
Parking was very good, and we had a lovely view from out table. We ordered open prawn and salmon sandwiches, and a cheese, ham and onion marmalade Panini.
Open sandwiches were good apart from a mountain of dull lettuce that was dumped on the side of the plate ~ no salad dressing at all. The Panini was half empty, had just a little cheese, a tiny amount of ham and no sign of the onion marmalade :) Again a huge amount of boring lettuce leaves on the side. Really disappointed with the lunch which cost us a hefty £30 in total.
The waiter we had, Sam, was very helpful but the guy behind the bar whom I paid was not at all helpful and really let the other staff down......... was thinking of booking a weekend away here but now don't know if I will

Stunning views, relaxing atmosphere, glorious food and smiling staff! What more could you want in a relaxing weekend break! Well worth taking a trip and can't wait for the new refurb in 2014! Also, the best breakfast ever, even last thin in the morning. Honestly, this is the jewel in Hastings Crown!

I loved this hotel. It was exactly what I had hoped for on this trip. Full of atmosphere. I had a lovely room overlooking the garden and the sea. So romantic. Sadly I was solo, but I felt luxurious. Good breakfast. Just one night-wish it had been more. I'm with a tour so can't address the value and I didn't use the pool or fitness center. Spotlessly clean. I really recommend this one.

business brought me to this part of the world. I wish I was with my love a this is a romantic castle hotel right on the seacoast. the morning light from the seabreak in front of the hotel is spectacular, but the access to the beach is a bit down the way an easy walk. The staff is very accomodating and the hotel itself is up to date, clean and very comfortable. The food in the dining isn't bad at all - a good thing as there are not many choices nearby. My stay in the glen arm room didn't afford a terrific view, but the room winding down a hallway and a few stairs was very charming, clean and very comfortable. If you have difficulty with stairs you may want to chose another (or want a view) - though for the price at less than 90 sterling with breakfast it was fine. internet is free and decent in the bar, spotty elsewhere (as is mobile cell service!) There is pay internet in the rooms, which is quick but I would have thought it might be gratis.

the food in the hotel is surprisingly decent. good selection at dinner and breakfast certainly was ok with a full irish available by buffet.
Would I return if I was in this part of the world? Yes, indeed. But it would have been so much better with my wife versus being solo.
NB - if flying from Belfast city in the morning, be sure to leave at least 2 hours to get the airport. Don't be fooled by the navi or the front desk in thinking it is 45 minutes! during the week there are a ton of school buses, lorry trucks and traffic going into the city. leaving at 7:20a we missed our 9:40 flight and had to book another!

Rooms at the front of the building face the ocean - on a clear day you could see Scotland. Be sure to look for the reclining man in the rock across to the right of the front of the hotel. The gardens in the rear were beautiful; very peaceful and relaxing. We crossed the road, went down a flight of stairs to the beach; found a small shell and some beautiful rocks.

We would definitely stay here again if in the area. Oh, be sure to visit the haunted tower - with a group of friends.

Room Tip: Request a room at the front of the building to see the water, rear view is of the lovely gardens

We had an 'executive room' at the front with fabulous views and this is one of the main reasons for saying here. The room was a decent size and very clean, although we had to ask for the heating to be turned on as it was on a timer! Breakfast, lunch and dinner were very good. The lunch was served in front of an open fire (sitting here is a bit of a fight!) but this particular area is a bit like an old peoples home and needs a dramatic update. The ding hall on both our nights was shared with coach parties and is a little stark - but also has an open gas fire. If you have a car, take a drive along the coast road which is fantastic; off the main roads, we were often the only car. We were able to access the free wifi from our room. I would not stay in a hotel that charged its guests for wifi.
