“Super Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

Although we eat here regularly in the evenings, this was our first Sunday Lunch with the children. It was great - the staff, as always, were kind and attentive. The service was quick without being rushed which is perfect when you have two small children with you! The roast beef was excellent and judging by my fellow diners it was a very popular choice. Their set 3 course menu on a Monday night for £20 with a glass of wine is another reason to try this great restaurant in Wimborne. Disabled friendly with easy wheelchair access downstairs and a well designed disabled toilet. Keep up the good work - it's a joy to eat with you.

“oh ! what a night !!!! the best”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Just got home, Monday night £20 for a three course meal, plus a glass of wine. Had one of The very best of evenings of all time in Wimborne. Feeling a bit tipsy, wow great service from Sarah and Laura at the tickled pig. Thank you for staying on, the food was brilliant, service second to none. All way and beyond our expectations.
Everybody should try the Monday night experience, its a great social night with friends, or your much loved partner. The surroundings are lovely, time flies and the food is to die for. We cant complain, now home after catching wimborne taxis home. Many thanks, every course was the best. Wimborne should embrace the whole restaurant and cafe culture. Well done to all the staff at tickled pig, thankyou. Of to bed zzzzzz

“A bit disappointed”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

We had heard good things about this newish restaurant but the dinner experience didn't quite match up, though it's hard to decide exactly what the problems was.
The menu is quite short, and I understand that they look for fresh local produce and base it on what's good and available each day, but that did mean we weren't bowled over for choice - there was nothing that jumped out and said 'eat me'. Nevertheless, on the whole the food was good to excellent and well presented, but not overly fussy... it certainly wasn't style over substance, and portions were a decent size for us.
Service was generally good, although there were a couple of times we felt that we were ignored for a little while in favour of other tables (regulars perhaps?). They were certainly good at checking that everything was OK once food arrived.
We sat upstairs where there is a shortage of soft furnishing to absorb noise; the wood floor is very nice but it does mean noise reverberates around. That evening there was a fairly large party at the other end who were pretty noisy, so that didn't help the atmosphere. Also, being in a conservation area it has sash windows (single glazed) which we were sat by - that did make for an intermittent cold draught on a very windy evening, even with the blind down.
At £85 for 2, including a bottle of wine, it wasn't over the top, but somehow it felt a bit on the high side. We'd certainly go again, but won't be rushing back.

“All boxes ticked!”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Our first visit to the Tickled Pig with friends who are regulars. Great decor, great ambience, the restaurant was busy and buzzing when we arrived to a warm welcome. All our dishes were presented and cooked beautifully. It was all excellent but my highlights were the pigeon pastilla starter which was gorgeous, the sage croquette that was served with the pork and the panna cotta which had the perfect amount of wobble. A lovely smooth Rioja ticked another box. Love the philosophy behind the restaurant - great local ingredients cooked with care. Well done to Jez and the team. We will be back!

“Very dissapointing.”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

I visited The Tickled Pig for lunch, with a friend and her 5 year old son a few weeks ago. My friend ordered the soup which was warm and quite filling. I ordered a bacon, poached egg and belly pork salad. There was nothing really suitable for my friends child so she said so, the waiter then proceeded to look at the menu to suggest a dish. The problem i have with that is if a mother says there is nothing suitable for her child surely that shouls be acceptable? They did rustle up a coissant and a jar of jam (that had obviously been used before), maybe a ramikin would have been more presentale. When my salad arrived i was quite shocked. I had 4, (inch squared), pieces of bacon and 4 very small pieces of belly pork that was very dry, a bantam egg (was cooked well). There was a lettuce heart in the salad that was inedible and quite a few very yellow leaves. The only reason i didnt make a fuss is that my friend was treating me to lunch. Unfortunately for them another friend of mine was also eating in the restaurant and over heard a few comments from the waiting staff about my friends child. They seemed to think that the child was more of a "chicken nugget kid!!".Also we didnt recieve a "is everything ok" visit from the waiting staff. All in all dissapointing, very overpriced, £8.50 for my petite salad that was unsatisfatory.
