I am writing to unfortunately complain about a visit and meal that we had at The Fox and Hounds on Friday 26th April 2013, arriving at about 17.30pm.
We decided to try your pub for a meal only by chance as we were on our way to another in the area and as we had not previously visited we decided to try it. We did not have a recommendation.
Many of the tables we found were reserved which to me alleviated my worry about quality of food, or so I thought. We found a table around the bar area beside the garden window and at the time there were no children, so I assumed a child free area. I was wrong and found to our dismay loud or crying children at every eating area. Why I wonder are there no child free zones for a couple to enjoy a quieter meal, even family pubs generally offer child free zones.
We were asked if our meal was good by a waiter during our meal and I simply replied that it was just about fine....the waiter did not respond and walked off. I did complain gently at the end of our meal and the waitress did not respond adequately enough for me to feel happy to pursue my complaint satisfactorily at the time without fuss, so I am writing to you as this method is more comfortable to me and my husband rather than making an uncomfortable scene and spoil our day.
Our sharing platter for our starter arrived on a cold plate with the food warm to hot
We had an hour wait for our mains to arrive and this was not told to us at ordering
Main courses arrived on again cold plates/bowls
Husbands main: Lamb shank, mash etc. arrived swimming in watery gravy and lamb shank almost dried up, apart from gravy, meal was warm. Verdict, poor quality food, bland and poor presentation, small portions, would not be served at home. It was edible however and as we were hungry and did not want to wait another hour for a replacement the meal was eaten, alike canteen food I suppose but not enjoyed.
My main course arrived: sizzling 6oz sirloin. Vegetables arrived on cold plate, I questioned if the mushroom had actually been cooked, peas cool, no onion ring, jacket potato warm, again very small portion sizes, steak was ordered medium to well done, well it was well done plus, plus and not at all what I had been looking forward to as it was tough and the dried out mushrooms on the sizzler dish very unappetising indeed and tasteless. The meal was poor quality, very bland and tasteless and not at all value for money, I would definitely never serve this dreadful meal up at home.
Yes by now you are probably wondering why we ate some of our food and did not moan about it, well I have no idea because sitting here writing this complaint I wonder myself as I believe this meal was not produced by a chef at all as it was a disgrace, especially serving hot food on cold plates. I did not think the meal was worth paying for never mind the £32.23 I have paid and I would like to ask for a full refund please as this meal was disgraceful and I am saddened that I chose to visit your pub especially as I was so looking forward to this treat after working so hard on the hospital wards as I am a local nurse.
I will not apologize to you for having to write to you but I sincerely hope you will take on board my comments to improve your service, but we will not return, thank you.
Later that evening both my husband and myself experienced upset stomachs, very churned up and gurgling, no diarrhoea thankfully but unsettled all the same. We felt better by the next morning thankfully.
I await a response and cheque in the post
