“A lovely back to basics, family friendly campsite in a great location.”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

Burnbake campsite is not the most organised, nor does it have the best facilities and the water is not always hot but these small problems are easily outweighed by all the briliant plus points the site has to offer:
* Firstly the no booking policy allows the cronically disorganised (me) to find a brilliant campsite in a fab location in the August school holidays on the back end of a week of fab weather when you realise you haven't had the dogs treated for rabies to go to France as you planned.
* The website gives sensible advice to help you arrive at a good time to maximise your chances of finding a good pitch and when we emailed ahead asking about alternatives should it be full they replied with reassurance almost immediately.
* You can pitch where you like as long as you are 6m from other tents. Pitches are either in amongst the trees or in the open. None are too far from the facilities and it is possible to tuck yourself away if this floats your boat.
* You can pay per night, suiting fairweather campers (me again).
* The site is nowhere near a road meaning the children have great freedom to enjoy the woods, streams and tree swings. Bikes are an essential.
* The shop is great and most importantly only open for 2 hours in the morning and the evening so the kids are not asking for money all day long. The opening of the shop becomes an event!
* No caravans.
* Great location with loads to see and do within 20 miles.
* Most of the campers appreciate the relaxed atmosphere and are generally lovely people.
* You can take dogs
* You can have fires and BBQ's as long as they are off the ground. A fire pit in the evening quietly playing word games with a few beers is a fantastice way to end the day.
* No Clubhouse, Arcade, Slots or bar! Hooray!
Burnbake - we will be back.

Burnbake (between Corfe Castle and Studland in Dorset) is quite simply, my favourite campsite in the UK!
The site is very well managed, relaxed, friendly, in a beautiful position (a mile off a B road towards Poole Harbour), and is for people and families who enjoy being under canvas.
The facilities are good and provide all basic needs -hot showers, flushing loos, a small Aladdins Cave of a shop, washing and washing up facilities and even a small wooden cafe if you're feeling lazy and don't want to cook on your camp stove or BBQ.
There are no caravans! (Hooray!)
Partying (by youngsters/anyone!) into the early hours is frowned upon by both 'management' and fellow campers and those who transgress this 'rule' may be thrown out! (Double hooray!)
However, if you want to sit outside your tent enjoying your BBQ, supping wine or beer and chatting until 10.30/11.00ish while the kids enjoy themselves swinging on ropes, cycling around the site and generally making new friends, this place is for you!
There are few 'written rules' -but just an expectation that you will be friendly and decent to those on the site around you.
I've been going to Burnbake for over 30 years and very little has changed...apart from a few improvements in washing and toilet facilities... Long may it continue like this!

Kids loved this place, went back to spending all day outside on rope swings, getting muddy, and making friends, even my 18 month old loved exploring the woods, whilst still in view and was always safe. This place is a gem, ok so no mod cons or swimming pool, but if you want to go back to traditional camping away from the Xbox and crappy evening entertainment then this is for you.

We stayed in the wooded area which was a real treat, apart from the nats, but that's part of the charm. The none booking system although a worry for an organiser, really set the laid back tone, and rent was collected at night, so no set time to stay or go.

Toilets and showers were basic, but suited our needs. People whinge about the cleanliness of the showers, but how are they supposed to keep a muddy shower floor clean is beyond me, all I can say is they tried, and toilets were always clean with loo roll.

We will Certainly return here.

My friend and I returned to this site, having stayed briefly there last summer. it is a well run site with good facilities, particularly the hot showers which were always available. It was surprisingly quiet at night, despite the site being apparently almost full to capacity during a hot weekend at the start of the school holidays. The site is very well placed for the neighbouring attractions in a lovely part of Dorset. We would happily return there another time.

Been to Burnbake every year for six years. Excellent campsite, great for kids to play and explore and good facilities made better by removing the prepaid card machines. Showers were actually too hot, but that might have been due to the temperature difference outside - NOT Burnbakes fault. Showers were also kept remarkably clean considering the amount of mud due to the weather.
One of the few campsites that allow fires and that meant a great evening for the adults.
Great walk to Studland with kids (albeit they didn't see it that way).
Shame Burnbake can't control the weather.........................................
We will be back next year. Thank you

My initial thoughts of Burnbakes "no booking" policy had me somewhat worried. Liking to plan things and ensure my "spot" this was somewhat alien to me. I needn't have been.

We drove on site, went to the lower field and set up our tents with our friends.

The lady came round for rent later in the evening and we were paid up and good to go from there.

My first time here and I have to say I loved it, there was a fully functional toilet block with plenty of toilets stocked with toilet roll and soap at the sinks (what more do you want on a camp site?) a washing up facility, a lovely well stocked shop and the staff were very likeable (and liked my Dragon outfit)

Would certainly return to this site if I were down that way of the world.

Room Tip: Go to the bottom field by the stream, it's great to go to sleep but it will make you want a wee...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Burnbake comprises of 22 luxury forest lodges with hot tubs and camping pitches. Camping: The campsite is a very traditional family orientated campsite, an ethos we have strived for since opening in 1975. We are a turn up and pitch site for tents and campervans. I am afraid we are NOT able to take caravans. We have a wide selection of flat level pitches ranging from heavily shaded areas that are perfect for those hot sunny days to more open areas for those looking to make the most of the British sunshine. Facilities wise we have toilets and showers, a shop, small laundrette, small play area and a café open for peak times. We can cater for larger family groups on our events fields by prior arrangement.
