“Family friendly and good food”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

We were able to reserve a table on a Sunday night at short notice for 4 adults and 2 small children. We were made very welcome and the menu choice was good. There was a children's menu.
Food was good and service was good. We would certainly recommend this pub!

“Floats My Boat”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Having visited The Ship several times over the past few years I was very pleased with the referb. and the new management.
It has always been an attractive place to eat and drink but was marred by a rather eccentric approach to customer service shown by the management (down right rude at times - fortunately for them never to me personally!).
The restaurant has been improved by the removal of the bar service area there making it a dedicated dinning space. The food is excellent (highly recommend the Game Pudding - succulent and really filling) with service to match.
The spacious garden is well provided with bench style tables and nicely kept BUT is somewhat spoiled by the presence of a wall mounted, wide screen TV (the garden is the place I usually go to escape the b****y things at other pubs).
All-in-all The Ship is very good and makes a great place relax after a visit to The Tank Museum, or Monkey World (both of which are just a few minutes drive away).

“Good pub fare”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

Underwent a complete refurb last year. Not everything for the better, too much space given to the bar with large TV screen. Staff however very helpful and polite, food typical of most pubs with a fair menu, altho not so comprehensive as before. Some of the more interesting dishes a bit pricey and wine also increased in price. Good garden. Overall worth a visit if you are in the area.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

Never thought much of the previous ship inn,it was dated, dirty and miserable staff. Now it's had a tasteful refurb, looks fantastic & the couple who are responsible for what can only be described as a genius transformation are just so down to earth and welcoming.
