We had dinner here and it was outstanding. Everything about it was excellent, the service was first class. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

“Imaginative Cuisine in an easy to reach country setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

For many, the Cock & Bottle comes as something of a surprise: its menus are imaginative and the quality of its cuisine unexpected in the area. At lunch, four of us enjoyed excellent scallops, duck breast and venison. Moreover, it has a nice atmosphere, with a warm welcome and reasonably prompt service. Although prices are on the high side for this part of Dorset, they are reflected generally in the quality of the experience. It's no surprise that it has won awards and the downside is that it can get very crowded at weekends. Strongly recommended, but booking is essential.

“Special anniversary celebration”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

We choose the C&B for special occasions. We love the setting - out in the sticks - and the ambience of the pub/restaurant. We always are made to feel special. Service is excellent.
The food is a delight to the eyes as well as the taste buds.
You can choose your starter and main from boards on the wall, while standing at the bar, with your friends, with a glass of something in your hand. We just love that bit of the evening! The anticipation (drooling!) is all part of the fun!
The Venison Wellington, Rabbit Pie, Steaks etc, are fabulous.
The starters are amazing - crab, scallops, imaginative cheesy things, mushrooms, DROOL ON!
I can only ever manage a scoop of ice cream for pud. but do look at the specials board! The rest of our party always indulge in the most varied and delicious puds , ever!
Wonderful hosts! Exquisite food. Easy parking.
We ALWAYS book a table!

“Outstanding example of a village/country pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2012

If I wanted a visitor to England to see as fine an example of what an excellent village or country pub is all about, this one would do nicely. This is a Hall & Woodhouse pub, and the landlord takes care of their beers in his cellar about as well as it can be done, I think. I had a perfect pint of Badger. The landlord and his wife Pat are also very pleasant and welcoming. They have some very nice and fresh fish on the menu, too. The interior of this pub is also very nice, with all the dark wood and beams that one likes to see in old country pubs.
