If bed and breakfast establishments in the Alastair Sawday guidebook were listed in order of merit, then Michael and Anthea Hipwell's Gold Court House would be a contender for the premier position in the guide. For breakfast there was an excellent selection of cereals and fresh fruit, I never actually asked for porridge, but I am sure I could have had it if I had done so. Of course there was also a very good cooked breakfast. Our room was large with an en suite bathroom, a super kingsize bed and two armchairs. Michael and Anthea have lived in Wareham for a long time and are very knowledgeable about things to do, where to go, and good places to eat..

Room Tip: Have the room on the top floor, if only for the view.

We saw this b&b in Sawday's Special Places to stay guide. We paid £85 for one night b&b.

PLUS POINTS:
*Full of character - was the goldsmiths house. Oak beams and picture rails. Very pretty b&b done in country French meets Laura Ashley style, with lots of downstairs reception rooms to spread out in.
*Immaculately presented.
*Lots of reading material about local area
*Lovely views from the room.
*Centrally placed, its ideal for Wareham's tiny Rex Cinem and restaurants and pubs for your evening's entertainment. Very short walk into town or down to the river.
*Served us tea and biscuits shortly after arrival in sitting room and lit the real fire for us.
This was a treat as great to sit by a crackling log fire.
*Breakfast was in a room adjacent to a beautiful walled garden, so nice outlook and light.
*Food was tasty, good quality and cooked to perfection. (Not many places cook mushrooms, tomatoes or eggs properly.)
Breakfast was a selection of cereals, marmalade, heather honey, strawberry, blackcurrent jam, yoghurt, prunes, home made fruit salad, milk, orange juice, fresh real coffee or tea, followed by cooked English breakfast. - Eggs as you like them, sausages, bacon, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms. White & brown toast.
*Good kingsize bed, comfortable
*Quiet location
*Relaxing place to stay.
*Friendly owners, chatty, welcoming. Helpful with restaurant recommendations.
*Plenty of hot water and radiators toasty.
*Shampoo, conditioner, bath/shower gel, talc and soap provided in bathroom.
*One toweling robe - I found nice after my bath.

NON-PLUS POINTS:
*Parking, whilst right outside front door, in back square, was on pay and display meter. Charges apply until 7pm on a weekday - we went Friday - and started 10 am Saturday. - As we arrived 5:30 pm and left just before 10 am, it didn't affect us much.
*Room tea tray was lacking biscuits for late night/ early morning munchies and missing drinking chocolate. - Wide selection of teas and some instant coffee decaff and normal in tin. Would have also liked some fresh fruit in the room.
*Bath had shower attachment from taps - not a stand up shower and was tiny - BUT - we mentioned this to them and they said 'our' bath was specially made to fit the room as it was up in the eves- and there are larger baths in other rooms - so say you'd like a large/ normal bath when you book.
*Bed was good size and comfortable but soft and springy, so not for everyone. My husband got cold because it was made with sheets and blankets, rather than a duvet and we had the windows open for fresh air.( And because radiators were too hot earlier, we had turned them down!)
*No hairdryer in room, but I didn't ask to borrow one as we found a fan heater in cupboard. BUT
I'm sure they would lend you one as they were so friendly.
*Not for folks looking for power shower, jacuzzi or townie modern style. - Its a country retreat.

OVERALL
Would stay there again.
A treat to ourselves at £85 - we sometimes spend more on a hotel with large swimming pool, was a bit of luxury.
Wareham is a useful stopping point for Weymouth, Chisel beach, Portland ....
Wareham has good pubs and good deli - cafe - The Salt Pig - which was excellent
In Wareham it is nice to sit by river and there are some walks from the water, but may be bit too small a place to spend more than a couple of days.

Room Tip: If you are a man travelling - probably need to ask for a room with a standard size bath If you are...

Michael and Anthea are a lovely couple who welcome you into their wonderful home.
The rooms are up to a very high standard, breakfast consists of high quality produce and lots of choices.
Being able to sit out in their tranquil garden is a bonus.
Nothing is too much trouble to make your stay a pleasure.
This was our second visit and we intend to return

My wife and I stayed here in May 2012 for a family wedding, and found the house delightful. Rooms spotless and breakfast a proper treat. The hosts are most welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble. Excellent value for money. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Speak to Michael - he will advise!

Michael and Anthea are excellent hosts. The room was very comfortable, and, while the bathroom wasn't ultra-modern, it made up for it by being separate from our room in a 'suite'. Breakfasts were a real highlight - wonderful home made jams and stewed fruit with yoghurt before the cooked breakfast. Wareham is an excellent site from which to explore Dorset, and this is an excellent place to stay.

Only three bedrooms all tastefully furnished and impeccably clean. Feels like staying in someone's home. Fantastic breakfast, especially the fresh fruit salad, yoghurt and brown bread. No tea/coffee facilities in room but can be requested (bottled water in room though). No lock on bedroom door which took a bit of getting used to initially. One room is not ensuite but just a hop over the hall to one for private use. Hand showers over bath rather than a standing shower.
Fantastic location in a quiet square a minute for the river and shops. Stunning garden.

Room Tip: If you want full ensuite be particular at booking.

Really welcoming, friendly B&B. Gorgeous clean room and the best cooked breakfast we've ever had. Would definitely go again. No problem with us being same-sex couple.
