“Excellent”

We live in Swanage where we have two Indian restaurants but they are not a patch on the Monsoon, we travel there two or three times a month and have never been disappointed.
The food is excellent the staff are always smart and polite and nothing seems too much trouble for them, don,t take our word for it try them yourself.

“Disappointing Meal, in poor lighting”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

I came here with another family member on Saturday night. We had been recommended this place by a friend of ours who is an excellent Chef, so we were looking forward to it.

Firstly, the place lacked atmosphere - proper lighting does not cost much, but this place seemed sterile because of the cheap lighting - possibly an easy fix.

The service was really slow too, we spent quite some time waiting to be served, which was surprising as it wasn't that busy. However, it was friendly service when it came.

We both ordered Vindaloo curries and were both very disappointed at how mild they were, not just not hot, but positively mild.

The rest of the meal was good - crunchy Popadoms, good sauces and excellent side dishes. But the main curry let it all down.

With the other quality curry houses in the area, we probably won't be returning, but would advise the owner to deal with the lighting at the very least - getting the right atmosphere is winning half the battle.

I would like to thank you for trying the Monsoon on the recommendation of your friend, and then going on to write a review on your experience here. I would like to apologise for the main dishes not being hot enough, this is something which if on the night was mentioned to the staff would have been dealt with swiftly changed, our staff would have been more than happy to replace the dishes for something spicier to cater to your pallet. It is a shame you did not mention this issue on the night, perhaps your experience would have been much better if you had.

In regards to the apparent lighting issues, unfortunately this is not within our control, the Monsoon is a Grade 2 listed building which means that it is almost impossible for us to alter the interior or exterior of the premises without being granted list building consent. In 2009 we changed our fixed wall lights which cost almost £90 each to purchase excluding fixing and wiring, there are around 10 in the restaurant area, I am sure an intelligent chap like yourself can do the maths and realise that the current lighting is not a 'cheap fix' baring in mind that these are just the purchase of the wall lights and do not include the ceiling lights or cost of wiring.

In reference to the slow service, unfortunately I cannot comment on this as this is the first time anyone has complained about our service being slow, this is something for the readers to judge for themselves.

We wish you the best, Kind regards

“Quick service but no atmosphere”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

We found the service to be quick and friendly, the food was fine, although the portions smaller than usual. It was very clean, but there was a lingering scent of cleaning fluid and the large room lacked atmosphere. Perhaps some screens would help?

Thank you for your feedback on your experience at the Monsoon, I am please that you enjoyed the food and service, in regards to the apparent smell of cleaning fluid in the premises I do apologise, we pride ourselves on maintaining a clean hygienic environment to dine in, sometimes I suppose our staff do get carried away with cleanliness and the scent of the approved chemicals we do use on tables, chairs, floors, windows etc. may linger, this is a lesson for us and we will take your feedback into account make sure that our cleanlinesses does not overwhelm the experience of our future custom, thank you.

“great food great service - Excellent!”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

myself and friends were in wareham a few nights ago. we were eager to find somewhere to eat and came across the monsoon on trip advisor. When we arrived we greeted by the friendly staff and seated promptly. Having eaten at alot of indian restaurants, i knew what to order and expect. I ordered onion bahjis and prawn puree for a starter, and it was amazing! the bahjis were fried to perfection and the prawns were very yummy and spicy. We had ordered different curries to share between us cos to have a variety, and they were all very well cooked, my personal favourite was the chicken bhuna and prawn saag. The flavours were amazing and had me wanting more. I had ordered plain rice, i should have ordered the keema rice as it was done very well here. After a very big meal, we were delighted to see that on the other side of the place was a bar, where we had ended the night drinking and talking to the funniest barman. We cannot wait to return.

“Excellent value and great food”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

Have visited Wareham for many years now but not tried this restaurant before. We have been to the other Indian in Wareham before and not been too impressed but this was very good.We went on a Tuesday for the 2 course set special at £10.We chose Tandoori Chicken and Prawn Puree starters and Chicken Pathia and Chicken Methi mains with an Aloo Gobi side dish. This was very good value and excellent food. The dishes available were from the traditional menu and we will return again to try some of the special dishes which seemed quite unusual.Attentive staff and good atmosphere. There is also a bar attached to the restaurant to go to for a drink first.Definitely worth a visit.

First of all I would like to thank you for your continued custom and loyalty to the Monsoon and for writing such a lovely review about your experience here, I am pleased to see that you are one of our many customers to take advantage of our BARGAIN 3 course Tuesday offer, if you ever wanted a change from this id recommend that you try our Sunday Night All You Can Eat Buffet for the same price, its a great opportunity for you to try different curries that perhaps you would not have. We hope to see you again soon, and thank you again
