If you are looking for a pristine, immaculate hotel you won't find it here. If you are looking for a friendly, homely, welcoming, wonderful breakfast then this is the place for you. Very good pre visit communication to my questions via email, we booked a double room and a single room (for elderly mother). When we arrived her room hadn't been cleaned but profuse apologies and quick action didn't dampen our enthusiasm for the Swan Inn. The beds were comfortable, fan in the room, windows that opened, water along with tea/coffee making facilities. The wifi was working. Breakfast was possibly the best we have had in a hotel. Choice was great, service with a smile, clean crockery and cutlery. The three of us were so impressed that we would not hesitate to go back again. The price being so low may make people wonder if the Swan Inn is any good. A bit like the B & B programme we gave a decent sized tip as we were so impressed. If the room had been ready from the off I would have given The Swan Inn the maximum stars.

We (and I) have stayed here many times over the years, and so as our last night of our house move from Dorset we picked to stay here. At first we were a little disappointed as It was always a bit up market, and standards did appear to have slipped. But as the night progressed we realized that things had just moved on. The beer was as good as ever, the food was good value well cooked and presented. (The manager even gave us a free round of drinks because the steak I ordered was not available, the mixed grill was a fine alternative). The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff friendly and efficient. We did however think that attention to detail was a little lacking, no tea spoon on the room tea and coffee tray. No drinking glasses in the Bathroom, The windows and outside window ledges needed cleaning, But these are just little niggles. However Breakfast was good and well presented. I would now rate it as a very presentable town Pub, and knowing this, will return when we visit Dorset next.

................ good in (most) parts!
The village situation was lovely and the room comfortable and cosy with a comfortable bed. Being over a pub the noise would be a nuisance for some, like us, who want an early night. As we have earplugs it did us no harm and we slept fairly well on both nights.
The criticisms we had were -
The food was disappointing and over priced. They were snacks rather than meals. On the second evening we found a great 'chippy' down the road and ate alfresco.
My husband's beer was served in a glass so filthy they could have dug it up out of the garden!! He had to return it.

I found the Swan Inn a delight to visit, the landlord/lady and their staff are very helpful, pleasant and very welcoming. A great pub with good live music most weekends and open mike nights and folk Sundays once a month. All in all a very friendly place to visit with nice food. I will be back very soon.

Visited for a quick coffee, expected something more to reflect the exterior, dissapointed with interior, very quiet, no atmosphere, a pub with rooms is more like it, they need to up the anti if they want to compete with the competition, not what I expected!

After being recommended to The Swan as a family friendly I couldn't believe ,Probably the worst food ever and cold with terrible service and a very very very rude LANDLORD would not recommend to any one

We went for lunch to The Swan on Friday last week just to give it a try as it looked quite nice looking place and I really wanted to find somewhere new to go as well. The inn is really quite nice inside with a traditional pub look with plenty of seating in the main bar. There is also a bit of a strange corridor are around the corner and then a back room and nice beer garden.
The menu is written on black boards, although you do have to look around the place, including in the back room where we found the vegetarian menu on one of the walls but strangely not anywhere else. There were also a couple of other menus that i found around the place with different food options that i didn’t see in the main bar.
The food itself is normal pub grub and really quite cheep. We had a range of sandwiches, a goats cheese tart for the vegetarian, fish and chips as well as lamb shanks cooked in red wine and onion gravy. When i ordered the two lamb shanks, my son wanted chips instead of the mash that it came with. I thought that sounded like a good idea and asked for chips as well.
When the food turned up the lamb shanks were just the shank itself with no sauce and some half cold chips on the side. I asked if this is not meant to come with a sauce as it says on the menu and some of the gravy turned up. Sadly it was stone cold but i didn't realise this until i had poured it all over my food. I had wanted to complain but there was a serious lack of staff and i never saw anyone again until we left.
The pub itself is nice and well worth stopping by for a pint as they had a decent range of beers on tap and the bar and beer garden were really nice, i would just avoid the food unless you spy a number of staff hanging around.
