I visited the Stalbridge Arms on Saturday night with my wife and our 10 month old son. Firstly, it was nice that they welcomed our little one whereas other pubs would have closed the shutters on seeing the pushchair entering the car park.
Here are the highlights: nice decor in the dining area, unpretentious menu, great hosts, service with a smile, the best dessert I've had for a long time (banana fritters with cinnamon ice cream), steak perfectly cooked with a tasty jus, nice few pints of Piddle (local beer for the uninitiated) and a reasonable bill. What more does one need? The food is in gastropub territory but it still feels like a proper pub i.e. menu in English with no tosh, nice bar area, comfy seating next to a fire and a skittle alley with pool table.
I'm thrilled that Stalbridge has a decent place to eat and hang out at last. We already have the best supermarket and butcher in Dorset and now with the Stalbridge Arms the future looks very bright indeed. Thank you Piddle Brewery!
