A lovely pub in a very pretty setting. The food was very tasty (especially the toffee apple pie) and the staff were exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Having walked there from Eweleaze campsite, the flush toilets were a particular highlight!

I was recently on holiday in the Osmington area with my family and we visited The Smuggler's Inn various times throughout the week. The location is picturesque, located right next to the beach and therefore sitting outside in the sun was lovely. The drinks at The Smuggler's Inn are very reasonably priced, pretty much what you would expect of any pub or restaurant and there is a very good choice on offer.
We also had two evening meals at The Smuggler's Inn and the food was lovely and was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. The food prices are a little expensive but this can be justified by the high quality, although certain dishes have fairly small portion sizes such as the lasagne. On arrival the dish it was served in looked very big but it was only half full which was disappointing, especially when it tasted so nice! My only other criticism is that the menu is fairly small, I think that a little bit more choice is needed as fussy eaters may struggle to find something that they would like.
Despite this, The Smuggler's Inn is a lovely pub and restaurant which is ideal for families, couples, etc and the staff were very friendly and provided an excellent service at all times.

On a recent camping trip we ended up here every evening! The staff are so friendly, the location is great - out of the wind, but still a great sun trap! There are plenty of dog bowls for filling up with water and our girls certainly had a great time meeting the local Dogs!
Prices are a lot more expensive that what we are used to, but you definitely get a full pint! So much so, you have to take a gulp at the bar otherwise you'd spill it everywhere!
Great atmosphere & would definitely return!

Visited here for the third time and impressed again! Food was faultless and so was the service. Recommend this pub to anyone. Beautiful views over Weymouth bay from the car park and pub itself in a beautiful setting.

we had read a number of reviews on this site and were almost put off, however knowing how much the normal human being likes to moan we decided to go with our gut and my god we were glad we did.Not only was the place amazing ,but the staff were amongst the best we had ever seen.food is good ,if you order the more expensive items its not always value for what you pay ,but our steak pie was the best id ever had.Breakfast was amazing and there was no pressure to 'get out ' asap the next morning.i had read a review complaining that there is no sea view ,well boo hoo for you ,walk up the steps and take in the view of Portland and the ocean .Trust me ....................book!!!

Room Tip: we had room 6 which was lovely

We stayed one night (Saturday), so....lets start with the good - beautiful setting, lovely room (there is a but here....), decent wine list (though if you are serviing wine in an ice bucket, invest in some ice bucket strand they are not pricey and save your customer being left with a table swiming in water) and a good selection of beers. Now for what spoils this place, tatty outside, we accessed our room via a side door (to the right of the pub) and we struggled to understand why on earth anyone would let guests enter through such an scruffy/dirty looking enterance. Room clean, mirror and shower head placed randomly obviously designed for people of 4ft...windows over looks a roof which could have done with a tidy up - the room in this part of the pub I assume were close to staff quaters? As i was kept awake but the racket, but is suppose it is a room above a pub. Now, here is the real issue - the food, it has been years since i have been served a plate of beige food, not even a bit of garmish and all stacked on top on itself - very hard to eat no side plate offered.....generic brought in fish cake - yuk, gritty plate which for some reason they 'serve' your cutlery on. The Fried mushrooms i had to start - RAN with oil when bitten into and i mean it poured out, on a good note the Wightbait was tiptop. Considering where the pub is to sell imported Tuna on the specials board just seems crminal, one of the puds we had was the apple tart, served in a very sweet mini pan but which was scalding hot (i mean my parnter 'lost his fingerprints hot' when he touched it, lucky he had icecream which he dunked his finger in) and to top that the pastry was raw - so was inedible. So in the prime Dorset countrside with no local produce and very badly cooked food, the menu needs paring down - they obvioulsy get very busy - surely a simpler menu better done would be better and for lords sake, how about LOCAL (or at least British) cheese on the burgers and LOCAL fish??? We were going to have a Liqueur Coffee - but having seen one come out looking like a Latte we decided agianst it. Breakfast was the best food we ate but cold. I see from other posts that the staff were critised? I have to say we found them all lovely, but the service behind the bar is a bit 'feast or famine' but they were all polite and helpful - I don't know if Hall and Woodhouse are responsible for the terrible 'generic' menu (i suspect they are) but i think the poor food/menu do the team there a huge diservice, it would be so very easy to make this pub great, we are not complainers, we will write a TA review and just not go back as we work very hard for our money and we would not waste it here agian.....well certainly not to eat, a drink yes, overnight possibly - but we would travel out to eat..and skip the luke warm breakfast....

Room Tip: Take earplugs - or hit the rather lovley wine list.....
