We booked a weekend break away as a family to celebrate a birthday at Sea Pinks Cottage in Portland reference 240354, on arrival at the cottage there was no parking to unload the car and the closest place was some 5 minute walk away, on entering the property it was very clear that the property had not been cleaned from the previous holiday makers and that they had not long left the property because of the "soap suds" that were left in the shower tray. The floors were dirty and covered in dog hair, the kitchen had food left on the counter and used bottles of champagne in the fridge and on the sides. There were coffee stains on the table in the living room with dog hair all over the sofas, upstairs the bathroom had toothpaste all over the sink, taps and mirror and makeup remover on the side of the sink. The bath had used towels in it and sand all over the floor and in the bath, whist the remaining towels were hung up on the radiator, urine left in the toilet.
In the main bedroom there was an unmade bed with dog hair all over it, food on the floor and cuttings from a magazine left on the side drawers and on the floor. There were also used towels left on a dressing chair that were still wet, again, obviously been used recently. The bed was in a disgusting condition..
After several attempts of calling and leaving messages on the emergency contact number, the mobile phone was finally picked up. We were told by the lady that she was at very important function and was right in the middle of the speeches. She informed us that she would call back, to which the phone was then hung up. Being infuriated by this, we called the number several more times until the lady eventually answered the phone. We then proceeded to tell the lady who turned out to be the owner of the property, all what was wrong. As you can imagine, she was apologetic but informed him that she would organise the cleaners for the following morning. When we refused to stay at the property and a lengthy debate, it was then agreed that we could all stay of us could stay at her B&B until the cleaners had been in the property for a deep clean.
Unfortunately this wasn't the end of our problems, it was evident that one of the rooms in the B&B had also had not been cleaned properly as there was biscuit crumbs all over the bed and used tea cups in the room.
The other room was a bunk bed in the fire escape area. We were provided with a nice breakfast with other dinners.
When we returned to the cottage the following day, the property had indeed been cleaned but almost instantly the smell of damp and mould became apparent. It was everywhere, in the kitchen, dining room, living room and in the bathroom. We then spent a further hour having to clean the dishes in the kitchen as these were not properly cleaned and smell was almost etched in to the crockery. The stairway is very steep.
Our weekend as a family and birthday celebrations were truly ruined!!
The owner refused to compensate us for anything and after requesting a full refund from Blue Chip Holidays they offered us 30%.
