“Clean & comfortable house in Portland”
Reviewed September 28, 2017 for a stay in September 2017

Seagull cottage is a well equipped terrace house in Fortuneswell, Portland. It was nice and warm, had a well equipped kitchen, comfortable living room and 2 bedrooms. You can see the sea in the distance from the back bedroom & kitchen. We were just a couple, so had plenty of room for our luggage. The only issue can be car parking - you will typically have to hunt around for somewhere to park, but in the two weeks we were there we always found somewhere within 5 mins or so of the house. Fortuneswell itself is just a normal small town, rather than a holiday town, but there are buses every 15 mins or so to Weymouth.

Thanks for your review and glad you had a comfortable stay. The parking is luck of the draw, but as you found it is always possible to find somewhere within a few minutes walk. Also once you have parked it is quick easy to take the bus in to Weymouth for shopping, outings or a night out. Thank you for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy, and we hope you will come again.

“Great location”
Reviewed April 17, 2017 for a stay in April 2017

We had a fantastic time and the weather was great. The cottage was perfectly located and had everything we needed. We loved Portland as it had everything we wanted to do (beach, climbing, running, discovering with the children). We all loved it and will no doubt go back.

“Lovely, welcoming cottage”

We really enjoyed our stay. Lots of thought had gone into making the place feel very homely and welcoming. Great location with lovely views across Chesil Beach. If we find ourselves looking for accommodation on Portland again, we'd happily return. The only slight issue was parking but we always found a space somewhere.

So pleased you enjoyed your stay. The parking is a bit of a lottery, but like yourselves we always manage to find a space somewhere. Also we think it is a real plus that all the parking in the area is free and unrestricted. In so many holiday destinations you have to pay to park, even overnight, so having to look around for a space is less of a bind when it is free.
Of course the other thing is that the supermarket, beach, pubs, restaurants and cafes are all within easy walking distance. Also there is an excellent bus service into Weymouth (24 hour and every 10 mins at peak times). So, it is perfectly feasible to come and stay without a car, as some of our guests do, and that avoids any parking issues at all.
Thanks very much for your review and hope you will come again.

“A home from home in Fortuneswell”
Reviewed June 25, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

The place has more of a homely feel than some holiday rentals. There is more useful stuff around such as kitchen implements, bathroom consumables and cleaning stuff. The sea views are very uplifting. Next door's cat Sooty is very welcoming. A parking space outside the house usually becomes available at some point each day so you don't have to park your car round the corner for long. The shower is extra-super-brilliant. I would have preferred a king-sized bed, but I knew there wasn't one before I booked, so it's not a complaint, rather a suggestion. The area is lovely. We particularly enjoyed the sculpture park/nature reserve.

“Brilliant - we didn't want to leave”
Reviewed October 14, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

There is nothing that we didn't like about the cottage, it was well equipped and all the rooms were lovely. The sea view from the windows was also a bonus, and it was very easy to get around Portland either by car or a short walk to the water front with a couple of good eateries. The cottage was perfect for what we needed and the owner was very helpful when I had questions prior to our stay.

Portland is a very interesting Island with lots to see, from the fascinating Geology, Tout Quarry sculptures, hidden coves, brilliant coastal walk with the surreal Chesil Beach as the backdrop.
