“A wonderful weekend away with friends”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

My husband and I came to stay at the Ship Inn with some friends, the welcome we got from Craig was outstanding.

Our rooms were really nice, clean and the beds comfortable.

We ate at the Ship on both evenings and the food is stupendous we certainly ate too much !!

Our husbands really enjoyed the choice of beer.

We will certainly be staying here again if we are in the area.

Thank you for a fabulous weekend.

We have been here a number of times and thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere and surroundings are wonderful and it really is one of those very cosy environments. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is absolutely great. The selection is good and if you are into your fish they have a great selection.
Well worth a visit, booking is always an idea as they get busy.

Found this place on line and booked it because of its good reviews, and it exceeded our expectations. All the staff made us feel very welcome, the room was a good size, clean, with a very comfortable bed & nice crisp white bedding, & good shower with good fluffy towels. The food was excellent, a great choice, beautifully cooked & presented by very attentive friendly staff. A good atmosphere in the bar area, very friendly locals. All of which was well organised by the owners Gavin and Sally. Thank you for a great weekend, we will definitely be back & wouldn't hesitate to recommend you.

This is a great restaurant. 6 of us went for Sunday lunch this weekend and had a superb meal. We all ended up having 3 course meals and couldn't fault any of it (roast pork, beef, fish and chips for mains and the desserts were top notch).

We will definitely be back again - good value for money, well thought through menu, good service. Loved it :)

Booked online, and thought it looked good, but it was far better than our expectations. Well furnished rooms, generous in size. Superbly comfortable bed. Quiet rooms although our room over bar area, we were not disturbed by any noise at all. Excellent lunch/evening menu. Fabulous choice at breakfast to suit any palette. The owner is most welcoming. Would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Ship Inn

Room Tip: The front rooms have excellent views.

We stayed overnight midweek in August and were accommodated in room 5 which was a lovely room at the front of the inn with extensive views. The room was well appointed and very clean but it lacked a bedside table and unfortunately had a cracked toilet seat which had been reported to the owner by the staff previously. The owners were on holiday and the Ship was being run extremely well by a couple of young people. The bar was well stocked especially with real ales and various ciders. We ate in the restaurant and had excellent food with very good service.
The breakfast was superb and very plentiful.
Overall good value and to be recommended. We would stay again. Many thanks to the stand in 'proprietors'.

We booked Sunday lunch well in advance as we were renting a holiday cottage near Gillingham and it happened to be my birthday. Turned out to be an excellent choice!
We walked through the door and were greeted warmly by the barman and two local ladies. although there seemed to be a good selection of Real Ale, I chose Stowford Press cider. Perfect. my wife had a glass of house Shiraz - also good. The owner appeared and was very hospitable. We were give a free choice of table in the restaurant. Lovely building - lots of character.
Our meal could only be described as superb. I chose a seafood starter with Tiger prawns and crab. Nicely presented and extremely tasty. My wife's smoked fish with beetroot Rosti (yes, beetroot Rosti!) was equally enjoyable.
She followed that with Roast Pork. High quality meat served with everything properly cooked and nicely presented. The side dish of vegetables was excellent and the apple sauce was home made. I chose the very tasty Thai (Beef) Panang curry which was served with Jasmine rice. So often the quality of meat used in such dishes lets them down - not this time! I can honestly say that this was at least as good as anything I have eaten in Thailand or, in fact, my favourite Beef Rendang (very similar) in Malaysia. Very tasty indeed.
The Dessert Menu looked interesting and very varied - obviously all home made. We were beaten by this point so decided to share the cheeseboard. All I can say is that I'm pleased we shared it! Plenty of cheese served with celery, quince jelly and grapes. Lovely. The glass of port we had to accompany it was fine.
At this point, we were definitely beaten but did manage coffee.
Throughout our meal our waitress, Polly, was brilliant. Animated and very pleasant she actually added to what was a very pleasant experience. We both hate hovering subservient restaurant staff. Reall people are much better!
We will definitely be returning to The Ship and will, most likely, book our next holiday cottage close to it (for obvious reasons!).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
