Mortons House Hotel

We found Mortons House Hotel on Secret Escapes and booked it due to the charming pictures. When we arrived, the hotel, the friendly staff and the chef exceeded our expectations.

At the reception we had a very warm welcome and throughout our stay the staff were charming and very helpful. Being only a short walk from Corfe Castle, it was ideally located for visits to the castle and the surrounding beaches.

After a long day a choice of delicious meals and wines was waiting for us. We had lunch and dinner at the hotel and both times we agreed that this was by far the best food we ever had (especially the steak).

After our holiday we came back home well rested and will certainly return to the Mortons House Hotel in the near future.

After a continuous residency period of 27 months I finally said cheers to the Management and Staff at Mortons House early in 2013. During this period I would spend 4 nights each week at the Hotel, and found it easy to integrate into the local community!

The Hotel amenities are maintained to a very high standard, and the principles of this very hospitable Hotel are upheld by a Management team of hands-on Owners that lead the way. The Staff are without doubt both polite, and very accommodating, always focused on meeting the needs of their guests.

The Hotel will gladly cater for all walks of life, and everyone that stays will be made to feel welcome. It provides a range of services that certainly aligns with its star rating, and an ambiance that fits particularly well into this 16th Century Elizabethan building. The character portrayed within this Hotel is more refined and cultured, rather than the hustle and bustle found in a typical chain Hotel

I only stayed in a few rooms during my time at the Hotel, spending most of this in Room 2. Nevertheless it was clear that each room has retained its own identity, and is fully equipped with an en-suit and Wi-Fi access.

Would I go back? Yes of course, the Hotel combined with what the local community has to offer you’ll never become bored.

Corfe is an ideal location for those wanting to wind down and relax, try out some interesting local pubs, take a stroll over some picturesque countryside (including some SSSI area), or just sit on anyone of the local beaches to catch a tan. For the kids and young at heart, there is the steam train that runs between Corfe and Swanage, the Bovington Tank Museum, Castle ruins, and much much more. Corfe can become a little overrun with visitors during Bank Holidays and other special occasions, but this just adds to the local vibe.

My wife and I recently stayed in the Corfe Castle area over a long weekend for a wedding. We ate in Mortons House Restaurant on the Friday night and this certainly lives up to its two AA rosette status. We had a drink while browsing the menu in the bar area and it was varied and modern - I ordered the pork belly and scallops, followed by pork fillet/cheek with a cassoulet of beans and spinach, whereas my wife ordered smoked ham hock ravioli with pea veloute, followed by breast of chicken with a wild mushroom risotto. Both courses were immaculately presented and full of flavour - also, the owners try to source food locally where possible. Dessert was vanilla rice pudding with Armagnac prunes, and coconut and lime parfait - delicious. We retired for coffee in the lounge which provided the perfect end to the evening. The accommodation was comfortable and traditional - we had a good night's sleep and the bathroom was spacious and well appointed. Breakfast on Sunday morning, in the main dining room, was very nice - the thick cut bacon rasher and perfectly poached egg being the highlight. I would definitely recommend Mortons House for a special weekend away - and eating in the restaurant is an absolute MUST!

We had one night here to celebrate our wedding anniversary - the whole experience was made extra special for us by the attention to detail by all at Mortons House Hotel (especially the restaurant staff ) The room was lovely and full of character and charm and our only regret was we only stayed for one night! The meal in the restaurant was faultless and the food was of excellent quality, complimented by the attentive waitresses - nothing was too much trouble and we would reccomend Mortons House to anyone who appreciates quality and style.

Room Tip: The Elizabethan room is expensive but worth it for a special occasion

I took my 91 year old mother to the hotel for a relaxing break and we both thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay. The accommodation was perfect for her limited mobility and the gardens and grounds were tranquil and peaceful. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent - good menu choices both at breakfast and in the evening. Excellent location for short visits to many areas of natural beauty. We would certainly visit again.

We really enjoyed our short stay in Corfe
The staff provided very attentive service and all is of a high standard throughout
Food and hotel surroundings were a delightful experience
The only problem we encountered was the room window wouldn't close and couldn't be fixed- all part of the charm of the old building! We would certainly visit again
The nearby Purbeck Way was one ofthe best walks I have done in years

We look forward to returning some time. We stayed 2 nights on 16 & 17 July. It is very elegant place to stay with friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent, starting with the best cream teas we can remember having. We dined in on the second night and were delighted with the quality of the food served and the menu choices. Breakfasts had full marks as well. We were in room 15, which was fine in this hot weather, but next time around we would probably look for a room with more natural light. One minor criticism - the water flow from the shower was weak.
