Thank you so much to Carroll and Simon for making our holiday a magical and memorable time the cottage is beautiful comfortable a perfect home from home, they went out of their way to make our stay perfect even went and bought an electric fan to cool us down (thank you).Stable cottage is the perfect place to stay for seeing the sights it has everything you need, it's a 10 min walk from a lovely beach and the sea is lovely to swim in, great pubs in the village and a shop too, would highly recommend and will definitely go back if we're going to that area again all I can end with is thank you very much Carroll for a fantastic holiday
The standard of the accommodation is very high, lovely décor and furniture. Nice added little touches - we were greeted with flowers, chocolates and a bottle of fizz! Great views from the living space window. Peaceful and relaxing. WiFi worked perfectly. Good powerful showers and en suite in each bedroom. Nice little area outside to enjoy alfresco dinner or drinks. Great location for exploring this part of Dorset - very close to West Bay and Lyme Regis, great fossil hunting on the local beach. Easy drive to other attractions for the kids - Weymouth, Monkey World, Tank Museum etc.Three good pubs within walking distance. Very friendly and helpful owners. Thoroughly recommend.
We visited The Stables in mid-June 2017 for one week.
The upside-down arrangement works really well giving superb views across the hills. The cottage had everything you need for cooking, etc and was clean and well maintained.
Carroll and Simon were very helpful, friendly and relaxed and not intrusive even though they live next door and we appreciated the wine and nibbles provided on arrival. There was also tea, milk, sugar and coffee waiting for us.
The location is excellent and we visited the Anchor and George pubs where we had very good food. Make sure that you book a table for the George. You cannot reserve a table at the Anchor, it’s first come first served, so arrive early as it is very popular. Parking is limited as the carpark across the road from the Anchor closes at 9.00pm. The Anchor is only a 10 minute walk from the cottage.
There are numerous places to visit, we particularly enjoyed Forde Abbey, Chard (30 mins drive), Montacute House, National Trust, near Yeovil (50 mins drive), Pecorama model railway exhibition and model steam train ride, Beer (35 mins drive), Lyme Regis where we had a tasty sandwich for lunch at the Millside restaurant, Sidmouth which is a traditional seaside resort and where we had an very good lunch at the Pea Green Boat restaurant. There is also an easy walk on Salcombe Hill (NT) with lovely views overlooking Sidmouth, no facilities.
Although we used our car a lot there are many country and coastal walks you can enjoy on the doorstep.
Stable Cottage is wonderfully warm and comfortable. It has been cleverly converted to a high standard and the first-floor living area gives a feeling of seclusion even though it is near to the centre of the village. It is a short stroll to all of the facilities in the village and we found the local pubs friendly and welcoming. We particularly enjoyed being able to walk straight from the cottage onto the beautiful coastal paths.
Highly recommended. Very comfortable cottage, decorated to feel like a lovely home with everything you need for your stay. The beds and sofa were really comfortable, the kitchen had the basics that are often missing from self catering properties and the cottage was quiet and warm. It felt like a relaxing, welcoming and happy place to spend a weekend exploring Dorset especially if you love walking.
The location was fantastic - a 15 min walk to the stunning coast, a host of great pubs to eat at and the view of the hills out of the lounge window was perfect. The Jurassic Coast is beautiful and there is a lot to explore within a short drive or a hike. There's no garden but so much countryside to explore to keep you busy as well as local beaches including the sandy beach at Lyme Regis.
Our visit was very well organised and we were delighted to have a little welcome package of chocolate, flowers and milk. The local shop is a 5 min walk away to stock up on food and we ate out at The Anchor, The George and The Bull and enjoyed all three meals.
Stayed over Christmas and the house is perfect for two couples as there are two double beds, both en-suite. The open-plan sitting-room/kitchen worked well for us, and the owners provided lots of Christmassy stuff like tree, crackers, biscuits and a bottle. Kitchen had everything needed and whole house very clean.
