Owner description: The Centre provides information on fossils, fossil hunting and the local coastal and marine wildlife. Facilities at the centre include interactive computers, hands on displays, marine tanks and a video microscope, all of which can help you to discover more about our stretch of the coastline. You will always find a helpful warden or volunteer who can help you identify your fossil finds. The Centre also has disabled access. Our Jurassic Theatre shows a short film on 'The Jurassic Coast and Finding fossils at Charmouth' (adults £1, children 50p). We also have a shop stocked with books for all levels, including some of our own publications, toys and souvenirs. Throughout the year we run guided fossil hunting walks and rockpooling walks along the local coastline. The Centre also has an extensive education programme. For information about the activities we have to offer to school groups please see our Primary Schools and Secondary Schools sections.

Great place to take the family.
Interesting, informative displays. Great place to start out, and shelter when poor weather!
The car park is large, charges apply. Toilets, cafe, fossil shop where you can hire tools...

Booked on line for the Sunday fossil walk.
The pre-walk talk was excellent and gave one the clues one needed to look for fossils.
The centre is in a great location, right on the beach, the staff were welcoming, friendly and very well in formed.
A must for anyone visiting the Jurassic Coast.
We will definitely be back as we didn't see or do enough.

good spot for all the famiy to spend a day or half a day (depending on the weather )you can find little fossils very easy not hard. its a pay car park even for the disable, there is a fossil shop where you can hire hammers to go fossiling next to it is a basic cafe ok for a coffee or snack i suggest you take a pack lunch to save you walking all the way back from fossiling ther is public toilets i also suggest you take some extra foot wear as your boots will be very muddy .

We visited with two of our adult children and thoroughly enjoyed it. A bit of history and lots of interesting information and its free - brilliant for younger families! Exactly the sort of place we woul spend hours at when our family was younger. Then walk along the cliffs and a do bit of fossil searching yourself. Doesn't get much better!

Approached via the main road into Charmouth (head for the beach) there is a very large car park. The views of Lyme Bay are stunning, both towards the Golden Cap and Lyme Regis. The only snag is that it's up the steps, so a no-no for wheelchairs, but once there it's full of information about fossils and the attendant is warm & friendly. Ideal for all to learn about the Jurassic coast where tides & constant landslips expose even more - two of which grace out house. There is a café integral with the building and a public loo just around the cotrner (past the anchor).
The town hosts a very large, weekly market which is well-advertised by the local roadsides.
