“The White House Hotel - great attention to detail.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2014

We recently spent the valentine weekend at the White House Hotel, Charmouth. The property is a beautiful Georgian House with many original features such as internal wooden shutters and curved doors. We received a very warm welcome on arrival. It was great to have on site parking to the rear of the property and our room was beautiful with a huge ensuite bathroom. There were fresh roses in the room and dressing gowns for our use. We opted to have dinner in the hotel and received a superb meal and a great breakfast the following morning. The staff and owners were very friendly and attentive and couldn't have been more helpful. There are many places of interest to visit locally. Thank you for a wonderful weekend stay. We would love to come again.

Thank you vey much for such a glowing review! It is great to hear you had such a good weekend in spite of the storm that blew our way that weekend. We would of course be delighted to welcome you back and hopefully it will then be a little sunnier for you.

Just got back from a really nice last minute night away. The White House is a lovely property full of charm and chartacter. We stayed in room 3 which was at the back upstairs, really large, spotlessly clean and with the best bath I've ever soaked in! If you want to do some fossil hunting just be aware - after driving to Lyme Regis and asking in the fossil shop where the best place to look was, I was directed back to Charmouth, literally to the road opposite the hotel! Oh well it was nice to visit Lyme which was only about 10 mins drive away. Ian the owner kindly lent me a hammer too, so don't be afraid to ask for that.
We had dinner at the hotel which was very nice. Top notch sticky toffee pudding - my favourite pudding and one of the best I've had! The member of staff serving was really attentive but because It's a small hotel all I would say is it lacks atmosphere compared to going out for a meal, but that's just one of those things and you can make your choice accordingly. Breakfast VERY good quality too.

As this is a review site the only (constructive) critisism I have is that I thought the food a little pricey (about £19 a main), the bed in room 3 was incredibly soft especially on the side nearest the door - my wife took great pleasure in telling me the next day that her side was fine - which it was!) and the alarm clock/docking station decided to blast out a noise periodically throughout the night, similar to when a text comes through whilst listening to the radio. I tried to ignore it but eventually scrambled around in the dark and unplugged the blighter! Lastly I thought one egg for breakfast a bit mean, especially for a growing (31 yr old) lad!

The most important thing to us was that this was a fantastic property, in a great location, run by freindly and obviously hard working people who aim to please and do a bloody good job. I was particularly impressed by the size of the salt grains ;-)

Thanks for a lovely stay,

The Mabey's

Thanks for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

Charmouth beach is a great place for fossiling especially after the recent storms and although Lyme is a great place to visit, there is no need to go to the 'big city' to bag a few ammonites and belemnites.

In our restaurant we do endeavour to use the best quality, local sourced and freshest ingredients all prepared and cooked to order which is reflected in the Gold Taste of the West and AA Dining awards we received last year. This is of course further reflected in the prices we charge and is commensurate with the quality we are aiming for. We are also competitive with many of the restaurants and pubs nearby with a similar ethos. We are however glad you enjoyed your meal, especially the sticky toffee pudding.

By and large the vast majority of people just ask for one egg with the full breakfast. We would have been happy to serve two eggs for you had you asked, (the scrambled eggs with the full breakfast is always two eggs) We don't like to send people away hungry!

Sorry to hear that you were woken in the night by the radio. I have checked it and it is working fine. I am almost certain that it was due to a mobile phone being left too close to the unit with both switched on which will causes this noise to happen each time the phone searches for messages.

Thanks for your honest feedback though it is always appreciated and I hope we have encouraged you to make a return visit.

This is a great cosy hotel with very attentive owners. Room product is great and food quality superb, catered for my pregnant/vegetarian wife effortlessly. Location is a perfect staging point to investigate the Jurassic coastline. Thank you we will be back.

Run by a warm and friendly couple, the food is excellent and the rooms are luxurious. Our room was spacious with beautiful views and an enormous bed which was blissfully comfortable.

There were lots of thoughtful touches like dressing gowns, fresh milk in the fridge and ground coffee for the cafetiere in our room. All the food was locally sourced, including the biscuits with the tea and coffee-making facilities.

The only flaw in our stay was the very narrow entrance to the car park. Best to park on the road unless you have a smaller car. Oddly we got in alright but scuffed the paintwork on our Mondeo on the way out (probably doubled the cost of the stay :-( ).

Once you are in they treat you like a guest in their own home and can't do enough for you. We were only there one night but we'll be back

Room Tip: Room 3 is at the back, away from the road and with nice views over the hills. Can't comment on...

Lovely stay in charming hotel in Charmouth. The staff were lovely and extremely accommodating. Our room (room 4) was just lovely with some beautiful period features. We would highly recommend and happily return.

I stayed here at very short notice, and they managed to accommodate me and my girlfriend (which was amazing).
Ian actually picked up the phone whilst in the cinema - That's dedication!
Our room we had was huge, with a super king bed (Two singles put together) with an Egyptian cotton cover.
As part of the room, you also get your own hallway with tea and coffee facilities, leading into the main room.
There was Freeview TV and also Wi-Fi.
We also had a walk in shower which was spotless, along with the rest of the bathroom.
The night we stayed it was during the great storm of 2013... that never happened.
None the less, we heard no rain, no wind and had a good nights sleep.

We only looked downstairs and the place was spotless, and very homely.. I will certainly be going back!

Breakfast the next morning was superb (See picture) and filled me up for a day of travelling ahead - You can see why they have won many awards!

The hotel is within a short walk of local shops, and the sandy Jurassic beach that Charmouth is known for.

Many Thanks to Ian for sorting us out with such short notice, We will be back soon!

Room Tip: I only stayed in one room, Room 4.. and it was huge.

Hi Sam and thanks for a great review. We were glad we could save you from the threat of storms that night. It would not have been much fun in a caravan had it got as bad as predicted! We hope to see you in better weather soon

We came here first in 2004 and can't think why we didn't come back sooner, but very glad we did. The rooms and bathrooms have all been upgraded/modernised and look lovely, we'd have been very happy in any of them, but we chose the suite this time as it was a special treat.
Don't even think of eating out if you stay here, we made the mistake of eating in a well known oyster bar in Lyme Regis on our second night and heartily wished we'd stayed put, especially when I heard I'd missed belly pork. We had a fabulous dinner cooked by Ian on our first night - lamb and steak, both with deeply flavoured sauces and perfectly cooked veg and had only to climb the stairs afterwards.
Service is efficient and friendly, you'll feel very welcome here.
