“Location location location!”
Reviewed August 11, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed here for a glorious week in July. The property itself is very well equipped and only short walk to the beach and also to the shops, pubs, fish and chip shop. Helen the ower couldn't have been more helpful and was correct when she told us you can easily spend a whole week there without using the car.
Only word of warning is watch out for the seagulls when eating outside, one of them make off with our sons you dinosaur!!!
I am sure we will be back!

“A second visit was just as splendid”
Reviewed April 19, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

My 80-something mum and I have just returned from our second week at The Hideaway - and it was as lovely as last time (late April 2013).

The house is in such a great location, is itself utterly charming and it somehow manages to be both chic and homely. We stayed for the week in the run-up to Easter - and the weather was astonishingly good: it could have been late May, rather than mid-April...

The addition of the large decking 'stage' in the garden is truly inspired - opening up the panoramic vistas to the hills/cliffs eastwards and making a wonderful spot for morning coffee (which, itself, was wholly improved by the owner taking on board our request of last year for a cafetiere!).

Returning to somewhere you've thoroughly enjoyed previously is a bit of a risk, but everything about The Hideaway lived up to our (high) expectations. Hard to recommend it highly enough...

Just two tiny suggestions: a second set of keys, please - and a small milk jug!

A really great stay in a very special place.

“Lovely little cottage just minutes from the beach”
Reviewed April 7, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

This was a lovely place to stay, a home from home. The owner, Helen, was very helpful when booking and had lots of tips for things to do while there. Our only regret was not staying longer! We travelled with a (just) 4 year old who described the place as 'absolutely delightful'.

“Unique property in excellent location”
Reviewed September 8, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

I stayed at The Hideaway at the beginning of August with my husband and teenage son. We loved its location tucked away at the bottom of a driveaway off the beach road. Both Charmouth High St and the beach are only minutes walk away.

The property itself is of a very high standard in terms of its facilities and decoration. We loved the very high ceilings in the main room especially as 2 of us are very tall. The property benefits from lots of natural light and feels very spacious.

From a practical point of view the outside tap was very welcome for washing sandy feet when we returned from the beach. We also made use of the garden furniture for breakfasts outside on the decking area which was lovely on sunny mornings.

In the village we used the general store, newsagent and fish & chip shop. It is worth pre-ordering fish and chips if possible as on our first night there my husband queued for at least half an hour as everything is cooked to order.

Booking the property was straightforward. The only slight annoyance for us was the arrangements for disposal of rubbish as you are expected to dispose of all rubbish at the end of the holiday or pay a charge. We could only find glass recycling in the village and took home all our other recycling. There wasn't any details in the cottage of a local household amenity site locally and therefore we decided to leave our non-recyclable rubbish in the outside bin and pay the charge (which was advised in advance although not the amount). We were charged £10 which we were fine with (for 2 black bags full). Personally I would prefer this to be included in the rental charge to start with as who wants to dispose of their rubbish at the end of the holiday or during it? We didn't think it was practical to dispose of our rubbish daily in the bins in the village.

Apart from this though we were very happy with the property and our holiday.

Many thanks for your positive review.
Previous guests have had no issue with the disposal of their rubbish but I will take your comments on board regarding the inclusion of the charge into the rental rate.
Just to clarify, the nominal £10 deduction from your deposit was not just for the disposal of your rubbish but a contribution towards your breakages.
I am so pleased you enjoyed your week in our little house

“The Hideaway is an absolute gem”
Reviewed May 25, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

My 79-year-old Mum and I had an absolutely super week (in late April to early May), with the first glorious weather of the year being an added bonus. The Hideaway is a tucked-away-yet-close-to-everything delight - and the current photos just don't do it justice!

Both of us are seasoned visitors to self-catering accommodation across the UK - and The Hideaway is now right at the top of our lists. Homely, stylish, clearly loved and cared for, it was ideal for the pair of us.

Unlike some other reviewers, we ventured out and about each day of our stay (often with a picnic comprising bread from the great Charmouth bakery). Visiting Sidmouth via the coast road with stops at Seaton and Beer (great fresh scallops and mackerel bought from the fishmongers on the jetty for cooking 'at home') was a highlight - as was a day at one of our favourite gardens, Ford Abbey, near Chard. The sub-tropical gardens at Abbotsbury were as superb as ever (particularly on the only day when it was slightly damp); and 'real market town' Bridport and the nearby West Quay are charming too. Lyme Regis was beautiful and buzzing. Brunch at The Hive Cafe just above the beach in Burton Bradstock was a real foodie treat.

Our only (very, very minor) suggestions on departure were with respect to the lack of a cafetiere and a chopping board in the kitchen. I know these have already been taken on board by the owner.

A lovely house, in a lovely place, in a lovely part of the country...
