Stayed in the gypsy waggon on the same site as the railway carriage (which we originally booked, but was told several weeks after booking that we couldn’t have because it was double booked - trip advisor was blamed)
Nevertheless the gypsy waggon was a great experience for myself & my 11 yr old daughter. It was good bonding time as there was no WiFi or electricity & so reliant on traditional board games (so good to see my daughter not obsessing over her iPad for once!), candles & the smallest wood burner ever!
Very clean, comfortable top bunk which we both slept in. We picked the worse few days weather wise - high winds & torrential rain which wasn’t conducive for a good nights sleep!! We had fun regardless.
Would definitely return (possible alone) in the summer when sleep & weather would be more likely ... then it would make a perfect retreat.
Very accessible to surrounding towns & villages all within 15-20 min drive). Charmouth beach only 10 min drive - as is a. good supply farm shop & local pubs.
Would recommend in good weather & for a unique experience / retreat.
Worth every penny! And do try the yoga and massage with the hostess. There was also a lovely horse in the field next door.
What an amazing experience! The carriage was clean and extremely comfortable with massive double bed bunks, suitable even if you're tall. The carriage has had further refurbished since the current photo with a safety bar for the top bunk added and a chesterfield sofa on opposite side now, next to the toasty log burner. (Logs, fire lighters and kindling provided at extra cost of £7.00) There were lots of twinkly lanterns with tea lights which added to the magical atmosphere as we toasted our marshmallows over the glowing campfire embers. Basic utensils were provided for cooking, eating and drinking. The compost loo was clean and absolutely fine to use with clean, running water for hand washing after (remember to bring a torch for night visits though!l The outdoor shower was private and although we didn't use it, I was informed it has warm water. Just remember to bring your own towels as these are not provided.
There were 3 other accommodations in the paddock - a couple of lovely shepherd huts and a gorgeous old gypsy caravan, but they were all thoughtfully placed to ensure relative privacy.
The hosts were friendly and welcoming but discreet so although they are not on site 24/7 they are only a phone call away and not far if needed. This suited us perfectly. Car parking was very close to accommodation just a few feet away, so easy for bags etc. or to store things in car.
Charmouth beach is only 5mins drive away and excellent for fossil hunting with our little one, plus Lyme Regis is only a further 5mins away for shops and civilisation. Would have no hesitation in recommending this gorgeous accomodation very highly and we plan to return!
