Just stayed here for 3 nights in a Superior double room with breakfast. The hotel also does a deal on a dinner and b& b package which looks a real bargain.
We were welcomed enthusiastically ( note to certain other hoteliers - this makes a huge difference to how your hotel is perceived ). And this set the tone for a highly enjoyable stay with friendly and efficient service
Some might think the room that we were in ( room 10 ) was smallish for a superior rate but we thought that it was a perfectly comfortable size and besides, any shortcomings in this area are more than made up for by the view down towards the cliffs and the sea. This room, seemingly part of an extension , had been wisely given two large windows to maximise the view and the unique light on this part of the coast.
We didn't have dinner at the hotel but did have a bar meal one night. It was very good , as are the breakfasts.
The building work seems to have been extended into August, but we weren't affected by it and its hard to see that many of the rooms would be so don't let that put you off.
Highly recommended for a combined country and seaside break. Be warned though - the lane up to the village is very narrow - watch out for those stonewalls when reversing!

When I booked this hotel for our family I explained that we were two adults, one 21 and one 13 year old, and were offered their family room for £157 per night. The accommodation comprised two adjoining rooms sharing one bathroom. Upon arrival I realised that the decor of the room was dated and rather shabby. Also that the room for the ''children" was a room with a bunk bed and single bed and dinosaur wallpaper. The shared bathroom was very narrow, with room for one person at a time. It had a bath and a hand held shower. The accommodation might be loved by young children but was clearly unsuitable for our family. For the first time in my life I promptly complained and was eventually offered a separate twin room for our "children", notably this also had a bathroom with a bath and hand held shower (a larger bathroom though). I refused to pay extra for this change and they reluctantly agreed. The rate of £157 for the family room was unreasonable, in my opinion. Charging per person for such a room may be the norm in the UK – and may explain why I prefer to holiday abroad. On a more positive note the breakfast was very good, as is the location of the hotel, being very near to Eype's Beach.

Our tariff clearly shows children as under 12's and the family room is designed for this age group. It has proved very succesful and loved by such aged families.

On this occasion it was sold as the gust would not pay for a seperate room for their children and this proved the cheaper option.

The hotel offers a very relaxing atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff. The room we stayed in has recently been refurbished and provided a full range of facilities. The food is excellent from a magnificent breakfast through to a comprehensive selection of evening meals. These are complemented by a extensive wine list.
The owners are investing heavily in improvements including an extension to the residents lounge and the smugglers bar area. This will further enhance the enjoyment of guests.

There can be no doubt that this hotel is a little gem. It is set in a most idyllic position on the Dorset coast, with superb walks right from the doorstep.

The staff were so friendy and helpful, and the food was really good, especially the breakfasts, which supplied much needed calories for the walking!

The owner explained the refurbishment plans ongoing but we were not inconvenienced by these.

The only reason I cannot give 5 out of 5 is that the rooms were rather small and had no baths, which would have been much appreciated after a hard days hiking. To be fair though, it was explained that plans were in hand to install these during the room refurbishments.

All in my party agreed that this is an excellent hotel, and we intend to return.

  • Liked — The setting of the hotel and the food.
  • Disliked — The bedooms were small and in need of updating.

We have just returned from our weekend at Eype’s Mouth and what a wonderful weekend. Originally we were only going to stay for one night however we decided to stay for two and we were so pleased we did.

The hotel is currently having parts refurbished however this did not intrude on our stay at all and judging by the plans all the work is going to be well worth it. Our room looked as if if had also just been refurbished so had a fresh, modern feel to it and was very comfortable.

We had both breakfast and the dinner in the hotel and all the food is out of this world using mouth watering ingredients and fantastic flavours - it was very hard to move after the third course!

All the staff were very warm and welcoming and very happy to assist with any queries we had. A thoroughly enjoyable stay

We have just returned from a great Mothers Day Weekend at Eype's Mouth where we were made so welcome by the owners and all the staff. We had a lovely double aspect room with views down to the sea and up to Thorncombe Beacon. Food was fabulous - huge freshly cooked breakfasts to set you up for the day and wonderful dinners to return to! Walked west directly on the coastal path from the hotel to Golden Cap one day, and east along the coastal path to Burton Beach another. What a gem in such great location! We enjoyed it so much we are going back again very soon with a whole group of friends for a walking weekend.

We spent one night there. It's situated down a narrow lane in the middle of nowhere, close to the clifftops. The hotel is undergoing renovation and the ground floor is a litle dated (although building work in that area is currently under way).
Nevertheless the whole place was spotlessly clean. Our superior room (room 10) was immaculate, with fresh decoration, new curtains, double glazing and brand new bathroom sanitary ware and, best of all, a great sea view. The bed was extremely comfortable.
The food was sensational and good value. Breakfast was first class. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Chatting to the owner, it would seem that the hotel was in a bad way before they took it over. Renovation will take time, but already, I'd have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.
