Had a meal at this restaurant earlier in the year (spring/summer'12) with my grandmother which was incredible: the food was exquisite and incredibly well presented and although not the cheapest it was well worth the money, it was the kind of menu and food I'd expect to find in a Michelin restaurant in London however upon returning in December this had changed beyond recognition.
I am not from the town personally so went on a recommendation from a friend the first time and was not let down at all! but on returning in December the restaurant was like a different place. The menu was no longer high quality fine dining but more expensive pub grub poorly cooked and badly presented! Is the restaurant under new management? New chef? Whatever has changed has ruined the high regard in which I'd held it earlier in the year.
In conclusion I will not be returning to The Avenue nor will I be recommending it to anyone! A terrible shame to what was once a spectacular restaurant in a small town.

After having eaten here a couple of times before we decided to take a couple of friends to try out their Burns Night menu. As usual, we were warmly welcomed by the staff on arrival and really made to feel like old friends. There was a special drinks menu on offer with a choice of Scotch whiskies and scottish beer as well as the usual drinks menu. The meal and service were superb, I particularly enjoyed the scotch broth - delicious and not overseasoned which has been a problem elsewhere. All guests were given a glass of whisky to toast the haggis, brought in of course by a piper who played in both the upstairs and downstairs restaurants. The whole evening was superb with great food, great service and a friendly team of staff. Having eaten in other places in Bridport, i have to say this is the place to go if you are in town.

We went to Avenue for a meal on Tuesday night, we was welcomed by the friendly staff and made to feel very welcome.

We both decided on the steak which was cooked to perfection and served with hand cut chips and a peppercorn sauce.

The food was great value and staff extremely friendly!

We will return!

We first ate here in the summer and were very impressed however dining recently has been a real let down.

To name some dishes I previously had a delicious 'carrot pancake' which was beautifully presented, full of flavour, delicious home made hummus, a very unique dish. More recently I had the 'tomato stack' which was bland and boring, tasteless and uninspiring.

We thought we'd give it another try but our most recent visit was pretty awful – the food bland and not very well presented and the service slow, and to be honest the menu was uninspiring. Looking at other local restaurants we realize it is overpriced for the quality of the food. Perhaps they spent to much on the decor which is as bland as the food.

Being one of few restaurants in a small town we thought we'd give it a few chances but we won't be returning.

This restaurant seems to be having an identity crisis. We hear they have been through a few chefs in the short time it has been open which makes you wonder why.
