My husband and I were on a day out with my 90yr old father-in-law
We were en route to Charmouth from Sturminster Newton and wanted to find a dog-friendly pub on the way for lunch
Not knowing this was possible we entered 'dog-friendly pub' into our google map and found the Hare and Hounds
We didn't know the area and we were sort of taking a risk. And just trusted the reviews.
Well, can't really describe the experience
Walked into the small bar and the locals sitting there made us instantly feel at home
Our recently adopted dog was completely welcomed in and given dog biscuits from a jar on the counter!
90 yr old dad was also happily welcomed
It was a beautiful warm day and we sat outside
Amazing views and huge garden space to explore with our dog
Food was genuinely home-made
Tasty - not fancy - not pretentious
My cottage pie was just that - a very tasty cottage pie with vegetables
It wasn't very busy - mainly locals - and most importantly the pub wasn't trying to be anything more than it was.
No airs and graces
Nothing flash and pretentious
Just very real, friendly if you are friendly
Check it out - pubs like this are very rare
