We were in town for,a concer by the great Richard Hawley at the Electric Palace and made the mistake of having a curry at the Taj Mahal having read some poor reviews before. The signs weren't good when we heard another diner complaining about the Poppadums and they were absolutely right. They were chewy and not authentic at all. We thought, if they can't get those right, what will the curry be like. Our concerns were confirmed when my wife's CTM and my balti were so far off the mark and not tasting anything like they should. They were in very thin, runny sauces and just tasteless - except of course for my wife's CTM which tasted strongly of coconut!! I have honestly had better out of a jar from the supermarket. This gives the impression of a restaurant with much complacency that passing tourists will call in, oblivious to the poor standards. I would be surprised if many locals use it. Total rubbish

We had a great mo day evening, the food is beautiful, and the staff are very helpful and friendly. It is the best curry that we have had, and we would recommend it for a lovely night out.

Most restaurants get busy on a Saturday evening, but they generally cope better than this one. Rather than say that they were full, they kept people waiting while they 'had a look', we saw several people give up and walk out after being left sitting by the door for ages.
We were given a table after a short wait, but had to ask twice to be served, not even a drinks order was taken without them being asked! The food when it eventually came was reasonable, although my wife's chicken curry was more onion than chicken!

Sadly there isn't much restaurant competition in Bridport, if there was, I think that the Taj Mahal would struggle for customers.

We visited on a Friday night with no reservation. Although being seated, the restaurant quickly became full to capacity, and this at just after 7pm!
The food was fine and service prompt, which, given the number of customers, was nothing short of impressive . Sadly the mannerism of all of the serving staff "shouted" complete disinterest . What a difference the occasional smile would make!

We had a most delicious lunch here today thanks to Helen and her attentive staff. The food was delicious, Helen helped us to choose the dishes that were best suited to the hot weather we are experiencing here in England ( for the past 3 weeks! ). Everything was perfect down to the lemon sorbet in the frozen lemon slice cup. Our only regret we didn't stop here earlier in our stay as I'm sure it would have been a guaranteed repeat favourite!
Obviously a success with diners as they are celebrating 30 years in business. We can see why.
Thank you to Taj Mahal for a great lunch on our last day in Bridport!
