“Friendly& Excellent value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013 via mobile

Located at the centre of Bridport (stayed on a Saturday which is market day so parking v.difficult but great time to have a wander around). Friendly pub-the staff and regulars with good atmosphere. Lively beer garden so no point in going to bed too early on a Saturday night. Rooms were a decent standard, comfy bed and decor and excellent value for money. A good breakfast (ordered night before) with freshly cut fruit salad, plunged coffee and full English. All in all well worth a stay.

Wonderful breakfast with a range of fruit, cereals and jams for your toast. The main breakfast itself was presented well and very nice.

The rooms were cosy and homely with excellent tea range, coffee and biscuits. Lotions and washing soaps were an added bonus in the bathroom.

Overall the staff were very friendly and made sure you were comfortable and had everything you needed.

We took a long weekend in Bridport to explore the area shown in the TV series, Broadchurch. We chose a large double on the top floor of this highly rated pub in the town centre as a pleasant base for our touring. Although cautious about the idea of Bed and Breakfast over a pub, it all worked out well - nice friendly staff, large comfortable room, some noise but more than compensated by the advantages of being right in the town centre.

The pub doesn't do food - but there are a wealth of restaurants and cafes nearby, offering all kinds of cuisine to every taste and budget, so no issue here.

The only caveat that I can offer is that Bridport's restaurants shut on Sunday & Monday nights off -season (we were there in April), so you need to allow for that. But really it's not an issue.

Conclusion: nice place, friendly, good people, offering good value.

(But if you want a five star luxury hotel, or a quiet village location, go somewhere else - don't whinge as some of the other reviewers on this site have done).

Room Tip: We were on the top floor and had no problems with noise intrusion from the ground floor bar.

Firstly, I'm really wary of all the extremely positive reviews of this pub that give it an entirely unblemished 'excellent' rating. It's a straightforward boozer, with some re-furbished rooms upstairs that were done up to try and cash in on nearby olympics events. That said, the rooms are pleasant enough and are very comfortable. Though they don't serve meals, which I found odd, the cooked breakfast was excellent.

However, charging £85.00 for a room with no soundproofing to the bar directly below is steep, and simply not worth it. They have an extended licence until midnight on a Saturday, and the noise levels in the room are such that they might as well place the beds in the bar. There seems to be just floorboard and carpet between you and a speaker blurting out songs like 'Don't fear the reaper' at full volume until midnight, after which the music switches off and you're left with people shouting and laughing as the bar empties. I've stayed at plenty of Inns, and not experienced noise levels like it. A shame really, it let's the place down and in my opinion the room was worth £50.00 a night as a result.

Room Tip: I should imagine all rooms are noisy.....

My Dad and I had booked to stay for one night at the pub a couple of weeks ago. We were made very welcome by the bar staff and spent the evening sharing drinks and chat with them and the locals.
The accommodation is superb. The bathroom have obviously been recently re-fitted and were as good as at some 4* hotels I have stayed at.
In the morning we went down for a fantastic breakfast, and chatted with the owner.
I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anybody wanting someone inexpensive, but quality to stay in Dorset.

Room Tip: If you want a large room with a queen bed and a single ask for the attic room. Really nice and light...

Stayed for one night for a concert at the Electric Palace just down the road in the centre of town. Excellent pub, with stacks of atmosphere and friendly, efficient staff. 'Proper' landlord and landlady who clearly know their business extremely well. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Really enjoyed our short stay here.
