“Best B n B in Britian?”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

Just a lovely B n B - nothing to fault at all. We've stayed in a beautifully appointed en suite room in the main house a few months ago and were lucky enough to have the two bedroom Gander Cottage this weekend. Both beds were comfortable with lovely bed linen. The en suites were perfectly clean with nice deep baths. The rooms were beautifully decorated with plenty of personal touches and everything you need i.e. bubble bath, tea making facilities, dorset ginger biscuits, hair dryer etc. The cottage has two bedrooms, both en suite (two singles downstairs), a fully equipped kitchen, and private terrace outside so it's ideal for families or a small group of friends.

The breakfasts were delicious! Home made warm bread, lovely greek yoghurt with home stewed fruit, honey and granola, tasty local bacon and all cooked to perfection.

Pauline and John are lovely friendly people who give a very warm welcome and lots of local information. There is is so much to do in Dorset. A great holiday location!

Great place to stay. Pauline and John are such generous hosts and so knowledgeable about things to do and see as well as the best places to eat (and drink). The rooms in the B and B are very comfortable, spotlessly clean and well appointed. The views are wonderful, great walks straight from the doorstep and a pub within walking distance. We didn't use the car as much as we expected (even walked into Bridport).

Room Tip: I like rooms 1 and 2 on the first floor which have a good view of Colmer Hill

Where to start?
Pauline and John are wonderful; attentive but not intrusive.
During our visits we've occupied several rooms and the self-catering apartment. All were large, comfortable, spacious and well appointed. The bathrooms were all fantastic and definitely worthy of mentioning on their own.
Then there is breakfast: always fabulous, always something different if you fancied it; warm ruby grapefruit with brown sugar, stewed fruit and yoghurt, fresh fruit platter with ginger. Cereals as you'd expect but fresh, home-baked bread and home-made jams and marmalade. Cooked breakfasts using the finest of local Dorset produce and nothing was too much trouble.
I can't recommend this place highly enough. and after all of that you look out of the window at some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

Really comfortable room, they've tried to think of everything. Breakfast was excellent around a big farmhouse table, where guests from all walks of life got chatting. Good location for pubs for evening meals (we used the George in Chideock and the Ilminster Arms). Good for visitng Bridport's Saturday street market, and not too far from Lyme Regis either.

We had booked to do a 2 day hazel wood furniture making course with 2 nights B&B. Pauline and John were fantastic hosts, the spacious room was very comfortable and the breakfasts certainly set us up for the busy days ahead. The course ( held in the barn beyond the house ) was tough but rewarding and, under Peter's expert tuition, we each completed a chair to take pride of place in our garden. Wonderful mementoes for a great weekend.
Included in our weekend were two excellent evening meals in the local pub, The Ilchester Arms in Symondsbury, where the publican Mike and his daughter Jane were very friendly and welcoming.

What a wonderful weekend we have just had . John and Pauline made us so welcome . On our arrivel there was tea and a lovely home made cake. Our room was big| and clean and very comfortable and there was a lovely power shower big fluffy towels and a dressing gown to wear.
Our breakfast was huge. Fruit and youghurt followed by a cooked meal . There was cereal as well and fresh juice It certinaly set you up for the day. We stayed for two nights and on the first day we left the car and walked to seatown Pauline gave us directions and off we went. There is also a booklet with so much info in our room if you wished to visit other places. That evening we had a lovely meal in a restarant called the olive tree. The whole weekend was very relaxing and we had lovely weather !!. We would definitely recomend this to our friends and look forward to another visit . Julie and Terry C

Great hospitality, excellent home cooking with local food, a good room and personal service. Highway Farm is in a great location in West Dorset. We left our car at the farm and went for a fantastic walk along the coast path. There's nothing to fault and it's good value too. I'm sure we'll go back and we'll definitely tell friends about this B&B "gem".
