“Wild Garlic”
Reviewed December 3, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I visited on 14th Nov, as a treat for our birthdays, as we had been a fan of Matt through Masterchef, and were not disappointed. Our visit was on a Wednesday, and the restaurant was quiet, lacking in some atmosphere, but this did not affect the food. The popcorn arrived, ( I had been looking forward to this after reading the reviews ) and it was a good and different start to the meal. The cassoulet arrived for me, nothing wrong there cleaned the plate, the wife saved herself for main. We both elected for the venison, which was very acceptable but lacking in game flavour. The desserts however were superb. We had the selection between us and the dish was cleaned up, the lavender panne cotta, and liquorish cream were superb. Matt then visited the table, offered complimentary drinks and was very sociable, thank you. A long way to travel, from the Midlands, but well worth the effort.

“How disappointing....”
Reviewed December 2, 2012 via mobile

With friends we booked a table for lunch. I am really struggling to be positive about aspect of this restaurant. It appears that they serve a tasting menu, not sure how you are told about it as we were not given a menu with it on? We ordered some wine and some pesto popcorn arrived with it. No bread is served! Our starters arrived, and we all commented that they had no flavour, we had to add salt too all the dishes. Not sure of the problem but clearly this restaurant struggles with sauces, to the degree that they don't serve them, so all dishes are dry! Our friend ordered Venison for her main, when it arrived it was served Blu, she could not eat it so sent it back to the kitchen, when it arrived back it was nice and hot, very flavoursome and presented on a new plate with a few more vegetables, not the raw broccoli that it was first with.
I ordered cheese for my dessert, £9 on the menu £10 on the bill!!! The table next to us also had issues with their food, Matt came out to see them and then came to our table, we informed him that we had the issue with the venison, as a Caterer, you need to be carful about the excuses you give to your customers Matt, for the reason that the dishes have fallen short!! Really not acceptable!
This meal did not offer value for money by any means, and we certainly will not be returning, for the simple reason criticism is not accepted by the owner. There are some major shortfalls here and I can honestly say I felt that we left having been seriously let down.

My friend Christine just treated me to lunch in The Wild Garlic and what a memorable treat it was. Perfect.
Comfortable ambiance, excellent service and the most delicious flavours, beautifully presented. The wine was reasonably priced and that too was perfect. Thank you Christine and Wild Garlic ofcourse!

“Lovely atmosphere, great food”

This restaurant was delightful. It was hard to choose what to eat as the menu was so good. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Only criticism is portions a little on the small side.

“In A Small Market Town In Dorset”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

Beaminster is a small market town in the back end of Dorset. It boasts a couple of pubs, a butcher's shop, a greengrocer's, a baker's. an old style hardware shop, a few twee "lifestyle" stores, and probably one of the best places to eat in the South West. One word of warning though, take along a good map. You can't get to Beaminster from anywhere, and I live in Dorset. Once you have managed to locate the restaurant, easily found in the main square actually, you enter a fashionably rustic bistro style room. Wise to reserve a table. We ate there on a Friday lunchtime, and it was full. Food is sourced locally, and seasonable. Look out for the specials board. They were offering locally caught plaice on our visit. Prices reflect the quality of cooking and presentation. Service can only be described as charming. We were informed that we may have to wait sometime for our puddings. As it happened, we didn't, but they made us feel that they cared about our custom. Go soon, you will not be disappointed.
