“Very pleasant attraction”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

Abbotsbury swannery is a very good place to visit, it not only has swans but a lot of other bird life including geese, ducks and whatever else would like to live there. The inhabitants are free to come and go as they please. There is a lot of interesting information about the history of the swannery and there are a few exhibits. There is a very nice restaurant as you enter, beware the only toilets are here and the swannery is hundreds of yards away.
If you have mobility problems you can drive your car close to the swannery. The site is suitable for wheelchair users but there is a lot of walking if you wish to see everything. You can if you wish walk straight to see the swans and back again without going on any of the extra walks.
There is transport provided from the main car park to the swannery, for which there is a small extra charge.

“Cute”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

OMG the signets are so cute, Ugly Duckings of couse but very cute and fluffy, on a more serious note very interesting day out and real sense of history about the place, nice to see the reed beds being used for thatch roofs still today, good cafe on site - nice day for all ages esp if combined with walk to St Catherins Chapel with views down to Chesil Beach, well worth the walk up and up and up,

“Excellent in Spring when the first cygnets hatched”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

Abbotsbury is a lovely attraction on the coast in Dorset, get a combined ticket for the 3 attractions and enjoy yourself, it's great value for money.

We visited in Spring when the babies has just begun to hatch out and it was a glorious experience, so much information and chance to get up close with the hundreds of birds using the sanctuary.

Take a camera and you will get some beautiful photos and memories for a lifetime.

The walks around the sanctuary are fantastic, my top tip is wear comfortable shoes!

“Interesting despite the rain!”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

A fascinating place with lots to read in the guidebook in the cafe while passing time before the feeding. A walk to the lagoon, which was full of all sorts of birds and one could look at swans and cygnets close up. I fed them, and enjoyed watching them compete for the grain. If it had been dry, I would have spent much longer there - with short loop walks to explore.

“How many swans?”

wonderful place to visit - attend the feeding at 12 noon or 4pm to learn more about swans. Lovely couple of walks around and swan maze and bird hides. Great place to visit.
