Myself and my partner stayed at Elworth Farmhouse Cottages with the intention of a relaxing break away from the children – we paid £600 for 7 days. We decided to stay at Elworth Farmhouse Cottage because the place looked so attractive and it had a swimming pool and hot tub and was centrally located to explore Dorset.
Pretty cottage, living room has several period features, and garden, obviously very well cared for. Friendly dog. Welcome food, tea and coffee. Clean kitchen with all appliances.
No privacy, as cottage is attached to owner’s house, owner often walking past windows or tending to the garden just outside the windows. Swimming pool and hot tub is shared with owner and family and was used by them at the same time as us. Don’t assume that you will get sole use of both.
This is a working farm – expect to walk through cow slurry every morning on your way out to close the gate.
Avacado bathroom suite – bath unusually narrow with shower attachment that is very poor.
Kitchen smells damp – this kitchen has obviously been recently modernised, but with modern plaster, so walls don’t breathe.
Asked to strip the beds and clean the cottage before leaving. Also had to leave a £50 returnable ‘housekeeping’ deposit to cover damage – we’ve stayed in several cottages over the years and this is the first time we have been asked to do this. We usually leave places as we find them without being told. You get the impression you are treated as a tenant rather than a guest.
The star of the area is the coastal footpath which offers superb walking.
