Golden Coast Holiday Village
Reviewed March 12, 2010

My friends and I have just returned from a very relaxing and enjoyable week in the Golden Coast village, Woolacombe. We were very pleased with the accommodation which has recently been refurbished, and all the facilities available on-site.
Our experience was enhanced by visiting so early in the year, as the village was quiet, and the facilities were accessible and available at all times.
The ``Orchard` Lodge we stayed in was clean, comfortable ,well presented, and situated in lovely grounds and surroundings.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, took great pleasure in feeding the 3 ducks that visited each morning , and will be visiting Golden Coast again.
Many thanks :-).

I am a HUGE fan of the Golden Coast and have been to this park over 10 times in the past 4 years. I often go on the Sun Holiday deals but didnt begrudge paying £800 for a 4 person caravan last summer. Woolacome is possibly the most friendly and relaxed place you could take little ones - mine are now 3 and 5. The park itself has ducks, kids clubs, daft dances at night a billy beachball bus to ferry you up and down to the beach for buttons - its perfect for a short get away from it all. The accomodation itself gets my mixed reviews. We had a new caravan last summer, it was small, no drawers and MINIMAL hanging space - certainly not enough for a family of four for a week, yet it was bright, new, fresh - just edging onto a busy road which was worrying with the children. Also, the handyman guy in white van drives like a loony VERY IRRESPONSIBLE!
The Rose Villas (in process of being refurbed) are really really GROSS. Carpets are filthy, furniture stained, really dark inside - the lightbulbs must be covered in grease, the patio doors dont lock properly - you feel icky and when you get home your clothes smell like poo - its not a nice job to empty the laundry bag, but, if you share my frame of mind - were here to have fun for less than £80 for half term and at least mum and dad can have a (rather expensive) glass of wine in the evening whilst the kids bob around to the entertainments team. The indoor pools are shared changing rooms which wouldnt be so bad if they had some heating and didnt have the outside door wide open to the elements - they are REALLY REALLY cold. I think that if they had a suggestion box they would learn a lot and change a few simple things to make a big improvement. All in all, i would most definately recommend the Golden Coast, the location is breathtaking, the people are really friendly, the FRESCO shop is really EXCELLENT value - no rip offs there, parking is 8/10, entertainment is 8/10, cleaning is 4/10 - i always take my own disinfectant and wipe down knobs, reclean the toilet, sticky chairs and thoroughly the kitchen. I take my own pots/pans and cooking utensils and wash everything before we use it. I would opt for a Caravan as opposed to a villa (their cleaner and often quite new). The place feels SAFE - no hooligans, lots of lovely families, grannies and couples - weve never had any problems although ive never noticed any security. Were going again for easter week and im already looking forward to it. Hopefully the white man van will be gone - hes probably the most dangerous thing around for several miles!!! Have fun x

Had a fantastic holiday - the best weather ever - so no complaints there. The accomodation is about as good as a student house about 20 years ago. It was also very dirty and the staff seemed to think I was the only person who had ever complained! The British need to put their standards up. This accomodation really lets what is a beautiful area down. Who in their right mind would put up with this from abroad?

Please do not book your holiday at this resort the accommedation was terrible. we had a caravan which had mouldy curtains, the floor was sticky and had black marks all over it,we also seemed 2 have regular visits from flys, no i'm not exaggerating it really was this bad .We could only bear it 4 one night.
Their club house and entertainment was also very poor.
Don't take any notice of their web site it looked really good, so we ignored other peoples reviews big mistake on my part .

We arrived at reception and were given our keys and park guide quickly. We arrived at the accomodation which we were a bit dissapointed with. It was a two bedroom house but very old fashioned and not as clean as we would have liked. We were on a Sun newspaper holiday though so this was why we were given this accomodation as all of the better ones are probably kept for people paying full price. The actual site was nice though with lots to keep the little ones entertained. They have got an outdoor fun pool with slides if the weather is nice enough and an indoor pool but that does not have any slides. There is an arcade, an outdoor park and a indoor play area for little ones with a slide and ball pool. They also have a bowling alley but there is a charge of £5 per adult and £4 per child for this and a paint your own pottery place which there is a charge for but I don't know how much. They also have kids clubs throughout the day catered for different ages but I can't comment on these as my son did not go to any. The nightclub has children's entertainment until about 8.30pm which my son enjoyed and this includes a disco with party dances. Then at 8.30pm they have bingo with a top prize on the 4th game of about £200 but that depends on how many tickets are sold. They then have cabaret at about 9pm which was good but some nights did seem better than others. The nightclub sells food which is ok but nothing special. The on site pub which is called The Old Mill is much nicer. The pub has a beer garden with a park and the food is lovely. The site also has a shop called Fresco's which I thought was a Tesco as the sign looks the same. It is actually a good shop and I didn't find it too expensive. We went in to Woolacombe one day which has a gorgeous beach but not many shops if you like shopping. The Golden Coast has a bus service from the park to the other 3 sister parks and in to Woolacombe if you don't want to drive. I'm not sure how much it costs though as we didn't use it. I would go back to Golden Coast but I would like to see the accomodation improved.

I'd definately recommend Golden Coast to anyone with young children, as long as you're not too precious about the quality of your accommodation. The facilities are excellent given the price of the holiday - my son enjoyed the outdoor pool with it's water slides, the arcades and an excellent free soft play area (although this did get overrun by bigger kids in the evenings). The pub on site was also impressive, serving good pub grub and with a decent adventure playground to keep the kids amused.

As mentioned before, if you intend to spend a lot of time in your accommodation, I'd recommend that you pay the moeny and upgrade to one of the newer parts of the resort. We stopped in the lakeside villas, which seemed stuck in a timewarp from the 1970's. The bathroom and kitchen were shabby, and the toilet struggled to flush. That said, we weren't expecting 5 star accommodation with the price we paid, it it didn't spoil a good holiday.

On top of a good site, you also have the added advantage of being only a couple of minutes (by car) away from the best beach resort in England (and probably much further afield), and if you are spending a lot of time on the resort, you're really missing out on all Woolacombe has to offer!

We stayed in one of the Honeysuckle Lodges at the Golden Coast. Had a great time.

On the downside. the lodge was very tired and desperately needs refurbishing. Also, the pool changing rooms left a bit to be desired (a bit grubby and most lockers broken). On the upside, there is lots to do on site, whatever the weather. We went with our 2 teenage kids and 2 of their friends (aged 15 to 17) - they loved it and want to go again. They prefered it to previous holidays in Italy and France

We used most of the facilties during our stay (pool, sauna, steam room at sister site, pitch and putt, evening entertainment, 10 pin bowling, Mill Inn, takeaway etc) and found the staff to be friendly and helpful. We will certainly go again sometime, but will make sure we get one of the refurbished lodges next time!
