“Really good time had by all.”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

This is the first time we have stayed at golden coast, last year we stayed in their sister park twitchen house. There was 8 of us all together staying in 1 caravan which was fine as a base. We did upgrade to 1 with heating in the bedrooms and were very glad we did as it was cold at night. The park is lovely and situated in a ideal place for exploring north Devon. We spent a lot of time in illfracombe which is only around 15 mins away. The pool was nice but not quite suited for my 3 year old twins as it doesnt have a slide or much for younger children. The arcade was good with plenty of things to do. We also enjoyed the bowling which you have to pay for but thats ok. the children enjoyed the kiddie karts and walking by the fishing lakes and seeing the baby ducks.
We spent a couple of evenings in the clubhouse for the kids entertainments all 3 of my children enjoyed dancing with billy and betty beachball and the park stars entertainers were amazing with the kids and got really involved.
We had food in one of the cafes and it was really nice. We all enjoyed it and would definately come again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review of your recent stay with us. We are very lucky to be situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, and it’s great to read you took full advantage exploring our local area. I apologise you felt our pool was not suited to your younger children, however I am pleased to read you enjoyed the many other activities we offer on site. Don’t forget our outdoor pools are open from 20th May to 15th September - keep checking the internet for excellent, money saving Summer deals! Our entertainers work very hard and I will ensure your encouraging words are passed on. We hope to welcome you back soon! Aidan Glover - General Manager

We stayed as a cheap break via The Sun £9.50 holidays, it cost us £145 in the end for a stay in one of the caravans in the Clevewood Complex.

Check is was quick and easy. The caravan itself was big enough for the 4 of us but if i was to stay again i think i would spend the money and upgrade to one of the bigger caravans (i cant remember the name of the caravan but it was number 48). The beds in the caravan are pretty small, but its a caravan, so couldnt really complain. The caravan had everything we needed for a base. We have two kids (3 years old and a 4 month old). The TV was a bit iffy but once i played around with it worked fine. Also we went for a caravan with heating because of the kids.

On site there is plenty to do if you are just hanging around. We used the main pool three times and found it fine, its a swimming pool and didnt have slides or anything but the kids enjoyed it. There are six little huts which familys can get changed in. There is also an arcade, soft play area, cinima (which i think there an was extra charge for), kids pitch and putt, football pitch, tennis courts, mini golf and the EX34 complex which includes a high rope climbing adventure, pirate mini golf, climbing wall and the surf simulator. These were extra charges again but i thought they were fairley priced. There is also a supermarket onsite called Fresco which we used a couple of times, but there is a Tesco in Illfracombe so we did our shopping there.

The kids disco at night was decent for the kids again, pint costs £3.25 for not that bad. There are food places on site as well but we didnt eat at them, prices looked ok though

Good location as well, we did trips to Illfracombe, Woolacombe beach (which is the best beach i have been to in the UK), Combe Martin and Westward Ho from where we were based.

From a family point of view i would stay here again no problem and for £145 for 4 days thought it was good value.

I have just returned from a weekend break at Golden Sands. We had a great family break with my 5 and 2 year olds. Woolacombe is a great location.

The things we liked

Staff generally helpful and friendly. Reasonable price to upgrade to 'lodge' (bungalow) with plenty of space and heating. Lodge was well equipped and comfortable. Grounds were well maintained. Good range of activities if you have older kids and don't mind paying for extras. The pub with adventure playground were good. Very quiet at night.

Not so great

Lodge was quite tired looking and grubby. We moved a single bed as the bedroom door wouldn't shut and there were sweet wrappers and dirt on the carpet. Lack of play equipment, particularly for under fives. Investment all appeared to be in the paid for activities. I was unable to locate the softplay/ball pool and was pointed in a vague general direction by staff. As I had two small children in tow a bit more help would have been appreciated. The pool was disappointing. Very basic and dated.

Overall this probably wasn't the place for us. We didn't end up seeing any entertainment so all we got out of the entertainment passes was the use of the pool which wasn't that brilliant. If you like entertainment and have older children who would enjoy surfing, climbing, high ropes etc this would probably suit you.

It was amazing! The range of activities was huge and the pubs food was very yummy. If you are looking for your kids to do something the Wave simulator is amazing, its a short walk to Woolacombe and the beach and views are amazing. My family and I had a great time.

Room Tip: The Lodges are very good place to stay as they have central heating

Just got back from this park , What is right about it nowt. What is wrong lets see arrived there after a 320 mile drive to be allocated our place for our stay it was room 28 in the pine cones complex we opened the door and the room was smelly dark and small my friend keeps his chickens in better accomodation than that l was ready to do down to woolacombe and check into a hotel for the night, Went back to the reception to join the long line of people (many not happy with there allocted accomodation) we then told the girl on the desk that we wanted our money back but she said that we should upgrade to a silver accomodation which we did for and extra £30 which was a caravan in cleavewood no 51 as time was gettin on we stayed in this so called silver caravan the beds were shot in it very uncomfortable and the whole van was dated . SO IF YOU ARE GOING TO THIS SITE ON YOUR HOLLS I PITY YOU AS IT IS THE WORST PLACE WE HAVE EVER STAYED IN IN THE LAST 30 YEARS.

We booked a late deal to this park at a bargain price of £110 for 4 nights in a 3 bed silver caravan. Booking last minute to avoid the extortionate brochure prices saved us at least £250. 3rd time on this park and have to admit while nice enough for a short break I think any longer than 4 nights id have to take out another morgage to pay for it. The caravan park is set on a lovley woodland site (down a steep hill and accross a road from main park) its quite hilly so if you had mobility issues it wouldnt be suitable we struggled with the pushchair. Its nice Clean site and couldnt knock the caravans to be honest, the silver are clean and as advertised on website, basic. We did have terrible windy weather during our Stay which made nights chilly but heating in the bedrooms helped. We self catered for few reasons , firstly we like to know what were eating and also food around site wasnt too appealing included burgers pizza chips etc and a bit pricey anyway. CRavan kitchen was suitable enough I managed to cook a lamb roast even.
The park has lots of facilities such as crazy golf , playgrounds dotted around ans swimming pools( pools not suitable for kids all deep no shallow ends at all) which are all included in holiday price. I was a bit miffed as our 2 year old loves the ball pit and it was closed all week I got a few reasons from staff depending who I asked , "it was vandalized during easter" or" its annual essentially maintenance" or even " I dont know im sorry cant you take your toddler to the swimmig pool at twitchen instead"!!! . No alternative free activity was offered.
Crazy golf wasn't so crazy just up and down holes but there are pirates hanging down from high ropes so looks good. Kepr kids entertained for half hour. The wave machiene , climbing wall etc all looked good fun but at about £15-25 each gave it a miss and decided to find a free wave down the beach.
Entertainment team I have to say do a fantastic job with kids time , a hour and half at least each night od disco and games our kids loved billy & betty also. Well done with that very talented guys. Didnt hang around for adults entertainment so cant comment. Drinks in clubhouse the most expensive ive ever seen. Not even in central london have I been charged £4.10 for a bottle of bud and £7.75 for 4 kids fruit shoots! Hence I only bought that first one and took my own pop in after that.

the local area is gorgeous and the beach is perfect on a nice day you could literally stay all day the kids love the rockpools and sand is gorgeous. Lots of nice little seaside shops selling buckets spades sticks of rock etc. The holiday park do a bus down to the beach but again you have to pay for it.

I love woolacombe and will return, ill always stay at one of the parks but would always do a last minute booking as if I were to pay brochure price and Pay their food drink and activity prices id pay a fortune. Id recommend this park on the fact of the location and cleanliness alone.

Thank you for leaving such a great review! It’s excellent to read that you are taking advantage of our fantastic internet deals and found your accommodation to be very clean and of a high standard. I am sorry to read that our food was not to your individual taste. Our bistro does serve a variety of take away food, however we do have several other eateries on Park, such as The Old Mill Pub and Harry’s Sports Bar, which serve a wide variety of fresh, home cooked food for those who enjoy sit down meals. Our soft play area was unfortunately closed due to essential unplanned maintenance that was unavoidable. We did set up an alternative ball pit area in The Studio for guests to use free of charge - I apologise that you were unaware of this facility. Thank you for your kind words regarding our entertainment team - I will ensure that these are passed on. We hope to welcome you back soon! Aidan Glover - General Manager
