Quite a decent hotel, nice views, room was up in the attic with a sea view, this was a punishment for getting the sea view thrown in with the basic room tariff, so we had to hump cases up and down flights of stairs to the end of the hotel. Good staff, mostly non British, all very helpful. Food fine too. Beer not badly priced in the bar. I'd go back there.

We visted in March 2010 and found the Hotel very good .we revisted in May 2011.and found several changes in our opinion not good .
The very comfortable bar lounge had been closed down .to get a pre-dinner drink we were told there was a bar in the bistro this was dark few seats .out of keeping with the main hotel .The Dining room was partly partitioned off .the meals did not get changed very much .Coffee is no longer included .They used to leave the coffee pots in the lounge so that you can help yourself. The bed in the sea facing room was only 4-6 .
The hotel is now expensive for what is on offer . Maybe only just a 4*

We stayed in this hotel for one night. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. It is worth paying that bit extra for a sea view because it is a wonderful outlook. We found the staff charming, the food excellent and although there was a wedding party going on throughout the evening, we were not disturbed by any noise. A lovely atmosphere. Everybody was poilte and helpful and I would definitely go again.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a view, it's worth it.

We spent our honeymoon at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel (the Loft suite). We're regular visitors to Woolacombe but had never stayed at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel. From the moment we arrived until we left we felt completely pampered in such beautiful surroundings. The helpfulness and service from every member of staff throughout our stay was of the highest standard, everyone always had smiles on their faces! We took breakfast and dined in the hotel's restaurant - food was absolutely delicious (all 4 courses every night plus cheese board!) We made full use of the spa during our stay (I think I actually fell asleep during a highly recommended 70-minute aromatherapy massage!!) Lovely little indoor pool, plus we also played squash and snooker in the hotel's billiard room and even got a surf in. Oh, and we also saw a celebrity (John Craven no less was in the funky hotel bar the night before filming for Countryfile - rock 'n' roll!!!) Thanks again Woolacombe Bay Hotel, hope to see you soon!!

I loved the hotel, the bistro area is very modern and just been refurbished to a fantastic spec. - great to enjoy pre/post dinner drink. We ate in Doyles restaurant every evening loved the high ceilings and traditional decor and views to the beach quite a contrast to the bistro- it works wonderfully and I felt they got the ambience just right and importantly the food was excellent, we had to dress for dinner which was fun and felt right for this venue and it made it more of an occasion. We also so much enjoyed the leisure facilities such as the pool and golf and such a close proximity to the fantastic beach.

Myself & my husband stayed here on a dbb basis on the first weekend of March & I can really say our feelings are mixed! On booking, we specifically asked for a sea view room with a king size bed (on the basis of other rooms). We were so disappointed then when we arrived to find a small double. Not only that but the room was awful - big but totally characterless & reminded me of a hospital. However we did point this out to reception who dealt with this brilliantly & moved us to a room with a balcony. We couldn't believe this room was in the same hotel! Totally beautiful. Great balcony, amazing views, the best shower I've ever experienced & attractive decor. Also it was HUGE. Only downside (as we found out later) was that the 2 beds pushed together (to make the king) were not very comfortable & the pillows were terrible.
The restaurants are the same story. The main dining room (doyles) is unbelievably dated with beautiful high ceilings which meant that all diners & waiting staff had to whisper. Ridiculous. And the food was dreadful - totally ramsays kitchen nightmares. This included breakfast. We therefore decided to dine at the brasserie (in the hotel) on the Saturday night which was the complete opposite. Beautiful. Shame you aren't allowed to eat there instead of the 'fine dining' restaurant. Dinner b & b was therefore wasted and a waste of time - really wouldn't recommend.
Overall rating this hotel is difficult. Based on the first room we were given & the meals we were supposed to have I would rate this hotel as 2/3 satisfactory. However with brasserie food & new room I would give it a 4/5. I've therefore gone in between! Also really do think it's terrible to charge guests for wifi! In this day & age??!! And it's not cheap either.
Final comment is the staff were all excellent - reception, spa (although spa reception is ridiculously hidden), restaurant team, bar team - all really really good.

We booked a 5 day stay, 2 adults and 3 children aged 4-9, in July 2010. Booked fairly late so limited availability and had 2 room family suite plus bathroom. Room overlooked the kitchen roof so we awoke every morning to the smell of frying food and sounds of fans! Room decor somewhat faded considering cost £2500 for 5 nights. However, kids loved the evening entertainment, outdoor pool, playground, video club and of course the beach/body-boarding. The food in the bistro was excellent and very fairly priced, we ate there whilst the children were in the video club, not bothering with the main dining room. The weather wasn't good but we had a lovely 5 days and will go back.
