“A great British beach.”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

We are not crowded summer beach people but this beach is so huge that the size of the car parks must limit the numbers that can use it.
Our visit was on a windy weekend in December, so beautiful and fantastic surf; a joy to the eye. We were very impressed.
The great surprise to me was how easy the whole area is to get to from the M5, the A road to North Devon has been duelled in many places and was an easy drive.

“Everything you want from a beach... and more.”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

Where to start? Well, the view as you approach Woolacombe is enough to take your breath away, with Lundy Island seeming to float on the horizon. Parking can be pricey in season for those wanting to park adjacent to the beach but less so if you don't mind a short walk or clamber through the dunes. We like to go down there for a walk in the off season, when parking is free and easy on the hill overlooking the beach.
The sand is great for every taste. For walking the two mile stretch, for sitting, playing or digging (the national sandcastle building contest is held here). If you want to be near 'facilities' then you might find it a bit crowded at either end, but again, if you don't mind a stroll, then you'll find your very own piece of heaven.
Thankfully, they seem to have got the dog situation sorted (for those who can read signs), with the beach segregated into zones (dogs, no dogs and dogs on leads).
The adjacent walks, to Baggy Point or Morte Point, are just fantastic; not just pleasant but interesting too, and it's easy to explore quite a bit of the surrounding terrain from Woolacombe as a starting point.
We love the place, go as often as we can, and, unlike some more 'managed' beaches, the seasonal changes reward our efforts. Just a great place... and it's in the UK.

“Best sands”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

We last visited in early feb on the windiest, coldest, wettest, day imaginable and still this beautiful place can't fail to excite.Miles of golden sand with an almost constant surf its not surprising it attracts all the year round young people keen to surf.
In summer the obvious traffic can be a problem, but this is the time to really get to the soul of the place.
