“Enjoyed the concept”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

All 4 of us enjoyed the food and the novelty factor here.
3 of us had fillet and the other had sirloin.2 had the surf and turf option. That consisted of 2 prawns and a 2 inch squared piece of salmon(= tight).
The bill came to a little over £30 each (3 of us had desserts)
An enjoyable night.

“Stunning steaks and a great atmosphere”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

Just got back from a weekend in Woolacombe with 10 mates and I arranged our Saturday evening meal at Bees on the strength of Tripadvisor reviews and a great lunch there over the summer. The evening atmosphere was excellent - informal and fun - and we all ordered various steaks cooked on hot rocks. The meat is locally sourced and beautifully succulent, and when it arrives sizzling on top of a hot slab of volcanic rock it looks and smells amazing. You remove the lightly seared meat and cut off mouthfulls to be cooked individually, meaning you've only got yourself to blame if it's not done to perfection. My sirloin surf and turf was wonderful, washed down with an excellent and reasonably priced Californian Shiraz. A perfect warm-up before an 80s night with DJ Anna Banana at the Bar Electric next door!

“Great gimmick but even better food”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

The idea of cooking your own meat on a red hot rock is a great idea, something different from what most of us are used to when it comes to a restaurant. We visited this week and were the only people in the restaurant apart from another table which, is a real shame as this place is great. We ordered the Thursday meal deal which consisted of 2 steaks, potatoes and salad with 2 drinks for £28. The quality of the meat served was amazing, I also had the seafood option of tuna chunks and big tasty prawns that were so juicy and succulent. The steaks were fabulous quality and cooked really well on the hot rocks. We followed this with a chocolate fondant pudding for me and an Irish coffee for my partner, both excellent and a perfect way to finish the meal. The staff were attentive when needed and the atmosphere is quiet and laid back.

A real find, give it a try
