“Fabulous hotel, lovely staff and stunning views”
Reviewed August 16, 2009

There's not many places with the stunning views of Woodbury Park and the whole atmosphere of the setting is calm, warm and friendly. We organised a large family party in the Greg Norman suite and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, responding to planning emails quickly, then on the day, nothing was too much trouble. Food was superb, just a pity we weren't allowed to take a doggy bag home!.

lovely room with a view over the golf course spa facilities good. Although jacuzzi was not working. would also benefit from a steam room. Food good at breakfast and at the conservatory club. very relaxed atmosphere. Reception staff very helpful. But your restaurant staff let you down. They need some training .

Set in spectacular grounds Woodbury has the potential to blow you away.
There is ample parking and beautiful scenery.

Reception was impressive with a large open area clean and comfortable and friendly efficient staff.

The room was relatively small and as has been mentioned on previous reviews a bit travel lodge like. The balcony overlooking the golf course was a nice touch but so close to the road that led to the lodges back there that everyone who walked or drove past had a good look in on the way. Consequently we could not open the curtains and enjoy the view until we were up and dressed. (Perhaps some sort of net screen or blinds would be a way of allowing you to open the curtains in the morning to allow in some light. Without scaring the passing people)

You can hear the birds singing and see rabbits running around the grounds. But you can also hear kids screaming and shouting, doors slamming, people talking in the next room and at half past two this morning we heard people arrive and very noisily unpack over the next half hour.

We did not eat in the evening so cannot comment on the food or service in the restaurant. Breakfast on the other hand was an absolute joke. The service was some of the worst in the world. Toast and coffee orders were taken at your table to then be prepared by a girl behind the hot buffet using her hands (no tongs here). Eventually the toast and coffee (if you are lucky enough to get a coffee pot as they seem to run out of them for some strange reason) are handed over to the staff on the floor who then wander aimlessly round trying to spot the forlorn guests waiting for their order. Despite the tables being numbered they still don’t seem to be able to remember where they are.
So when your limp cold toast eventually arrives you would expect your cooked food to have appeared also, wrong because that comes from the kitchen!!!! The food is unadventurous usual British breakfast with a few cereals fruit (unwashed grapes) and yoghurts. But the attitude of the staff is consistently bad. They look terrified and are quite unprepared to make any eye contact let alone conversation. A very much needed staff training programmer needs to be set up here.

Housekeeping knocked on our door despite having hung the, Do Not Disturb sign to ask if we wanted our room servicing. We asked her to return later. When we came back in the evening the bed was not made properly, the bathroom surfaces had not been touched and toiletries not replenished, the mineral water had not been replaced and dirty wine glasses from the previous evening were left on the table.

Lovely setting in beautiiful Devon countryside. Lovely golf course. Not a lovely hotel.

Decor more suited to a roadside lodge, ie characterless, dull & un-exciting. I was in the room nearest reception and asked if I could be moved to a quieter part of the hotel. I was offered a twin instead of double (fair enough, could live with that) but it would also be an internal windowless room with AC. I hadn't realised you could book a cell. No thank you very much. I took the noisy option rather than be deprived of natural light & air.

Breakfast was ok, typical self-service hot and cold buffet with optional extras. No complaints there.

If you are a golf society and there for solely a few rounds and a few drinks then this hotel is probably fine. If you aren't, there are many many other places in Devon that are much nicer.

My boyfriend and I spent our valentines night on the friday at Woodbury! It was a fantastic deal that included a double deluxe room with truffles, champers, a rose and canapes brought to us at 6pm in our room. we then had a 5 course meal in the restaurant with a pianist in the background, plus breakfast and full use of the leisure facilities all for £95 per person! I did wonder, because it was so cheap, if the food etc would just be average but actually the meal we had was probably one of the best iv ever had and im a massive foody!! The menu was amazing including; tempura oysters with dipping sauce, ribeye steak with hand cut chips and chocolate souffle with cherry and kirsch sauce- i just cant compliment it enough, the atmosphere was romantic, the food was cooked from fresh and delicious and the service was spot on. Also breakfast was either continental or full english and, again, was lovely! If you want to relax, feel spoiled and eat fantastic food then i would really recommend woodbury! I will definately, definately be going back for another stay!

My wife and I decided to stay at Woodbury Park during a visit to friends in the West Country. We secured an £80.00 bed and breakfast deal over the telephone and as it was only one night I (unusually) didn't check Trip Advisor first! From the moment we arrived, early on Tuesday 20th January the service was excellent. The receptionist was warm and friendly and extremely helpful. The leisure facilities were very good and the room very pleasant with a modern, up to date feel. I've stayed in lots of hotels over the years on business and sadly most are places I would not choose to visit again. This hotel, thanks to the staff and their attention to detail is one I would thoroughly recommend.
