“Don't bother with expensive 'Superior' rooms”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

Booked a superior room, basically it had a better bed (which was the only good thing about the room) and a desk dumped in the corner, which looked well and truly lost.

I found the room to not be very well cleaned, and the bath robes to wear looked like they hadn't been washed.

These rooms are an improvement on the standard rooms, but still very much in the 1970's.

I must reitterat though, the bed was very comfortable, and the best bit about the room!

Dear Andrew W,

Firstly a very warm welcome back to our hotel and thanks for your latest review and looking at your past review I did notice that we scored the same grade so I can't complain about any inconsistencies.

I'm sorry that you found the writing desk to be of little use, generally the feedback on this facility in our superior rooms is good and guests especially corporate guests find the facility useful.

Thanks also for your kind comments on the quality of our upgraded beds in these rooms, we consider our guests sleep experience to be an important factor of their stay and I'm delighted you enjoyed our new beds.

Let me reassure you on one thing however, all our linen is cleaned and changed daily but in response top your comments, I have asked our housekeeper to take the bathrobes out of that room and replace with new as a precaution.

Again for your information, our superior rooms will shortly have upgraded toiletries, tea and coffee options and for a bit of fun we are installing plastic ducks in the baths. These items are in addition to the power showers, duvets with cushions and iPod docks we already have in these rooms.

Thanks again and I hope i can welcome you personally back to the hotel in the future.

kind regards

Rhys Roberts

This is the third time we have stayed here. Once again the room was comfortable and the breakfast selection amazing. Staff very helpful and approachable.Worth eating here for dinner too. Food very tasty and local and free range.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask, the hotel will usually come up trumps. We had room 18 and apart from a...

Stayed before in a superior room but this time was given a standard room.
This although not a patch on the superior was a good room with a smaller tv then the superior. However bed was comfy and no noise from adjoining rooms.
Had room service and food was very good quality and as I asked for the nights specials cheaper than the small selection on room service menu.
Thats my only critiscism. The choice for room service needs to be wider.
I will use again but in a superior room.

We booked an overnight stop on holiday. The room was a superior room which was huge, a large double bed with a substantial work desk which had surface mounted 13 amp sockets for laptops etc. I queried the room size with reception to be advised that standard rooms were the same size but had an additional single bed so seemed smaller. All the facilities you would expect; trouser press, tea and coffee etc. Restaurant has a couple of interesting options such as wild boar on the menu but obviously at a price. However the bar has its own menu of more mundane yet good value fayre. There was also a tap on the bar for a real ale; something not common in this type of hotel. It is well on the outskirts of Tiverton so after a hard days graft don't expect to wonder into town to see what's going on you will need a taxi.

Room Tip: If your exe's run to it go for a superior room.

We posted a review last year, and our most recent visit has confirmed that the positive comments made before still apply.

Our recent visit was for three days on a DBB basis, and we took a young grandchild making his first visit. The Tiverton staffs were a delight across the board and yet are all individuals – the culture at the hotel makes for genuinely enjoyable interactions. We were well looked after by all the staff we came into contact with, and this was most evident at the evening meals. The staffs were very helpful and flexible in accommodating the needs of our young 4 year old who enjoyed every dinner (and breakfast!).

Our previous review identified the Tiverton as an excellent base camp, and it did so again for our train enthusiast grandson. We visited the local Devon Railway Centre, the Wildlife Park and Dinosaur Land at Combe Martin (which includes an unusual train ride!), and using steam power we traversed the West Somerset Railway that connects Minehead to Bishops Lydeard with eight stations in between.

As a slight grumble to finish with, if only to demonstrate some objectivity, we did miss the freebie facecloth that used to be included in the toiletries packs. We know that an upgraded facecloth is now provided but we much prefer the functionality and durability of the earlier version. Fluffy towels are fine, but fluffy facecloths waste gel and soap and have less scrubbing power!

Dear MikeandFlo,

Firstly welcome back and I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us again and please pass on my welcome to your grandchild who was visiting for the first time.

Thank you too for the very kind comments on our excellent and friendly team, our philosophy is simple, we genuinely try our best to provide a warm, friendly and effective service and we are thrilled when our efforts are recognised.

One final point, your right to draw attention to the change in our face flannel, unfortunately that particular flannel is no longer available on the market and we found that the one we currently offer was the closest to the original.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

Kind regards

We stayed at the Best Western as part of a visit to celebrate a family wedding. We booked three rooms in a somewhat haphazard manner over time as our arrangements evolved. The hotel was very accommodating although as it has no lift, we should have specified a ground floor room for my eighty year old mother. No matter, the hotel changed the room immediately on arrival. In fact, all hotel staff, including those on reception, were always courteous and welcoming.

All our arrangements worked out very well, although I am aware that a different wedding/coach party caused some late night noise in a part of a the hotel, always a problem for staff in hotels in such a market.

The outward appearance and location of the premises is not inspiring but this belies the interior, which is well maintained, with high visibility and most obliging cleaning staff.

We chose not to eat evening meals in the hotel, having booked elsewhere in advance. However, the restaurant menu and bar service certainly looked good and our breakfasts over the two night stay were excellent, again with good service.

The rooms are very good, with good quality bathroom requisites and tea/coffee facilities. Overall, our experience was a happy one and I am happy to recommend the hotel for such a visit.

Room Tip: We had no real feel for areas to avoid, although without a lift it is obviously important to specify...

My family occupied three rooms for four nights in this hotel as part of a holiday in the South West. The hotel was fully booked thanks to coach parties that seemed to be given priority over other guests. The reception staff were often more interested in gossiping than attending to customers. The bedrooms were of a good size and comfortable except for one south facing room that was extremely hot at all times. Like most UK hotels there was no air-conditioning. As the hotel was full no other rooms were available. A fan was provided for three nights but it made little difference to the temperature.
We had a meal in the restaurant on the first evening. This was buffet style probably to cater for the large coach party. With very little competition in Tiverton, we had bar meals for the next two evenings that were acceptable.

Room Tip: Avoid south facing rooms in the summer.

Dear Westoe,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, your feedback is important to us and we discuss all reviews as a management team and we use such reviews to improve the quality of our services to our guests.

I'm delighted you found much of your stay enjoyable, this time of year we do indeed welcome a number of groups, this region is very popular for groups who come to visit Devon and Cornwall and we are an award winning hotel in this market.

I must pick up on your point on competition, we regard the competition for our hotel guests as severe, many new hotels have opened up in the area recently and others have invested and increased their facilities. Whilst it is true Tiverton does not have another hotel similar to our own, nevertheless we are never complacent about our business.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

kind regards
