Lovely day out for younger children, intimate and friendly, good old fashioned fun!
My little one enjoyed it so much that we upgraded on the day for a season ticket and have had our money back many times over.
Its probably best to try for a dry day as its mostly outside, but even in the winter we just wrapped up well.
I think it must be said though that you go there for the young ones and the enjoyment they have is brilliant to see.

Its a lot smaller than expected. Only 2 trains to ride on - one big train and one small one. Yes - you have got unlimited rides but once or twice on each is more than enough. Was a little disappointing that when in the gates you are constantly putting your hand in your pocket. A £1 for a go on a self drive train - my son loved it but with it costing a £1 a time he could only have limited goes - same for the self drive cars - we told our 2 year old they were broken ;) as again £1 a go. Then .70p for what looked like pretty rubbish crazy golf. It doesn't sound a lot but when you pay £15 odd to get in it soon adds up. Yes there is a free sand pit and ball pond, the trouble is the kids want to go on the pay per ride stuff as its obviously better. We did enjoy the visit but it didn't take long to see and do everything as therefore felt that its a little over priced.

Attended on a whim as the Canal boat trip we originally planned for this morning was fully booked. Rather than waste the fuel we googled and found this privately owned Jem. Our nearly 2 yr old love the place and had it not rained and he being tired we could easily have spent another couple of hours there. The additional costs for the self drive cars, trains and black hole machines were cheap compared to other places we have been and seem to last a good amount of time before the 'ride' ends. The stools for little people to be able to press the buttons and see and make the trains work are a great idea and the 'can you find' lists for each display would ensure older kids are amused too. Good day out :-)

My children (4 & 7) went last year and begged to return this year - they enjoyed it just as much as they remembered. As other reviewers have noted, you do need some extra coins to hand (especially for the drive-your-own-train which is very popular), but this is still a lovely day out for young children who prefer quieter, old-fashioned attractions. The train rides are good fun and the drivers always involve the children in flag-waving and ticket-punching. There's a nice spot for picnics halfway round, as well as a couple of small playgrounds and the play carriage (indoor train sets to play with, ball pit, and sandpit).
