Very grand house and delightful grounds.
Breakfasts were lovely and the hosts very pleasant to play 'publican' in the evening in the very cosy lounge. Would be a very nice place to stay in the winter, and the pubs locally are great.

Room Tip: All rooms looked lovely from what I could see.

I drove into this hotel by chance and was a little wary looking at the outside. However it was a great stay, nice rooms, great bed, and the restaurant, while it had a limited menu, was excellent. It is very quiet in lovely countryside and perfect to use as a base for exploring north Devon.

We spent 3 nights in the Collaven Manor Hotel and it was very spacious and comfortable.
There was an air of calmness about the whole place.
The bedroom and bathroom were both large, warm and beautifully decorated.
The only problem was that when we came home I had to buy a new duvet and pillows because the ones there were so light yet warm. I checked out the labels and they were filled with goose down, which is not cheap. We now sleep under a goose down duvet every night. Bliss.
The public areas were equally as nice as upstairs and the garden was beautiful.
We enjoyed the log fire in the main sitting room.
The food and the service were up to the same high standards of the rest of the hotel.
A real credit to the owners who work very hard to keep up their standards.

Visited this wonderful little hotel again on our way to Cornwall, and it fully lived up to our expectations in terms of comfortable rooms, attentive but unobtrusive service and delicious food, all excellent as before. It's more like being a guest at a small, intimate country house party than staying in a hotel, which makes for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. If I ran a hotel, this is just how I'd like it to be.

Room Tip: Room 8 is very cosy, has a lovely four poster bed and double aspect views.

We stayed two nights in this lovely hotel. It is impossible to understand why it is rated here under guest house/inns & B&Bs and why only two stars - it's a great little hotel, with amazing food and beautiful rooms. Our room was large, with two easy chairs and a good TV with excellent TV & radio coverage and good free wi-fi. As usual I found the bed too hard, as did some of our friends staying in other rooms, but others again said their beds were soft and comfortable. The bathroom was large, with separate shower and bath and plenty of hot water and plenty of nice toiletries, including face cloths and cotton wool. Room to unpack everything and the right temperature.

But the food was the stunner. Evening meals were totally delicious, all home cooked with plenty of vegetables, lovely soups and other interesting starters and wonderful main courses and desserts. OK we had to order our dinner at breakfast, but we were a largish group and there weren't many other people staying so it was understandable. Breakfasts were also first class, with everything you could wish for, including fried bread, which wasn't on the menu. Someone asked for fried onions and was told they could have them if they ordered the night before but they took too long to cook now. This is because the service at all meals was very efficient - not rushed but no long waits either. Breakfast was served at whatever time you wanted it, even though we wanted it slightly earlier than they usually serve it.

There is a separate bar where you can drink before dinner and a lounge if your group is too big for the bar or for coffee after dinner. All very comfortable indeed. At night there is total silence as this hotel is a long way from anywhere other than Dartmoor. It was recommended by a local friend, who clearly knew about good local places! This is a four star hotel by any standards. Go before they get recognised and put the prices up!
