Owner description: The small zoo making a big difference! Set in an acre of woodland garden above the attractive coastal village of Shaldon, we look after, and help preserve, some of the rarest and most endangered animals in the world.

Shaldon Wildlife Trust is a small zoo situated in south Devon, which despite it size has plenty of different species of animals, bird and reptiles to see. This zoo focuses on conserving species which are critically endangered in the wild and many of these species tend not to be on display in larger zoos in the UK.

The zoo has small primates, mere cats, lemurs and othere in a nice compact area. I though it was pricey for the amount of time we were in there but I guess our money goes to conservation too so probably well spent

Although in the scheme of things this is not a large zoo, it is well worth a visit. They are a team of devoted people trying to ensure that we do not lose some of the smaller primates by being involved in a breeding programme together with other zoos. Of course the meercats were the consumate performers making you smile. All the animals were encouraged to 'forage' for their food keeping them stimulated and happy. Quite a few steps and rather steep in places so take care.
