“Perfect Summer Holiday”

Rooster Hall ticked all the boxes for our summer holiday, suitable for a family with young children with space for grandparents too. There is plenty of room for everyone, with a large dining table and an ample lounge, the outside table was great to. My only reservation was having our two bedrooms upstairs with no bathroom - it's downstairs, but as a stairgate is provided this wasn't an issue. My parents loved that their room was in the far end of the house - no early morning wake-up calls.
We stayed a week and only felt the need to take the car out once, to visit the Paignton-Dartmouth Steam Railway (very good), I'd recommend the Shipwright Arms, Ness Beach and Shaldon Zoo. We also took the ferry over to Teignmouth (you get a free child entry to the zoo with every ferry ticket), I'd highly recommend going over early in the morning before all the daytrippers arrive, it was lovely at 9 o'clock in the morning even in august there was barely a soul about apart from a lone swimmer in the sea. Definitely an area I'd love to return to just wish summer holiday prices weren't so steep!!

“Everything we hoped for”

The thatched cottage had everything we needed -- comfortable beds, modern kitchen, washing machine, off-street parking -- and more space than we expected. The garden is beautiful. We had a lovely seaside holiday and enjoyed the restful pace of village life. Everything in Shaldon is within walking distance. We especially enjoyed the zoo, the smugglers' tunnel to the hidden beach, and the ferry across the estuary to Teignmouth. Gillian was helpful and easy to work with. We would definitely stay there again and have already recommended the cottage to friends.

“A warm, welcoming, and interesting cottage in a lovely village.”
Reviewed February 18, 2013 for a stay in February 2013

The cottage is within walking distance of the pretty village centre of Shaldon and the beaches. It's an old thatched cottage but beautifully renovated and very comfortable. Ideal for grandparents staying with young family as the master bedroom is at the opposite end of the cottage from the other two bedrooms! Nice enclosed garden. Felt very friendly and welcoming, warm and attractive.

“Lovely, comfortable and well equipped cottage”
Reviewed February 16, 2013 for a stay in February 2013

A great cottage, well equipped will many extras in the kitchen such as a hand blender and food processor. Really comfortable accomodation, good beds, very clean. There are two bathrooms so enough for everyone staying, the whirlpool bath is a nice extra. Lovely area and a great base for exploring it!
