“Lunch time and late afternoons very good”
Reviewed July 1, 2014 via mobile

We dined el fresco on 2 or 3 occasions and always found the food to be very good quality. Service was fine with no real issues and the location is excellent.
Would not hesitate to recommend or indeed visit again.

“Good but not amazing”
Reviewed June 30, 2014 via mobile

Obviously this restaurant has an issue with staff shortages and customer service skills but the food was decent. There are some very basic and crucial service elements missing and it definitely shows! I can understand exactly what the management are trying to achieve and im sure the high costs are due to the huge costs spent on renovating the venue and keeping it at a high standard, however a better investment right now would be an experienced floor manager and a bar manager , as it looks like no one has any sense of direction or urgency.
Bottom line...The bar staff should know what a gin and tonic looks like and the waiting staff should always repeat orders back to the guest because mistakes will take a long time to be rectified afterwards and will always leave a bad taste in your mouth!
I am not willing to give up just yet but please try harder! I really want to love this place!

“Great Lunch, Great Views, Great Staff!”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

First time I have had a meal here and opted for a sunday lunch with husband and 92 year old mother who eats like a sparrow (usually). Arrived at their busy time and had a quick drink outside taking in the wonderful views over towards Teignmouth and the Teign estuary. It was idyllic. Went inside to eat and had a table close to the window which still gave the two of us the wonderful views. Opted for the sunday lunch - 2 roasts on offer - and one of use had the beef and ale pie.
The roast was second to none. Loads of succulent pork, crackling to die for, ditto the potatoes, all served with yorkshire pudding (not the best I've ever had as slightly lacked flavour) but the creamed swede and the carrots, gravy etc. really lovely. My only suggestion would be that they serve a green vegetable instead of veg all the same colour (my husband insists that's a girl thing!!!) but disagree. He had broccoli, carrots, mash with the pie.
Service was excellent with a young staff who were eager to please.
We all left empty plates so speaks for itself.

“Great location.. Poor service ”

Staff friendly but puzzled as to why our food came out in drinks and drabs. Typically commercialised grub. Shame, location is stunning !

“A Sharp Decline!”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

We have eaten here many times on our visits to Shaldon and generally had some lovely meals (see my previous review). Therefore it was an obvious choice to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday, so we booked for a family party of 13 several weeks in advance. What a disappointment! Service was extremely slow (2 hours between starter and main), menu had been dumbed down and quality of food served ranged from mediocre to abysmal. One main course was incorrect so they took it away then returned with exactly the same plate and tried to pass it off again ! Staff were very apologetic and fully agreed with our dissatisfaction and did reduce the bill considerably inline with our experience but unfortunately this didn't make up for ruining a very special occasion. In the future we will only be visiting here for an occasional drink to take in the stunning view.
