“Good week at Devon Valley.”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Picked the least expensive chalet for the week due to having our dog with us. £35 charge for the dog. Chalet was excellent with Flat screen TV, Fridge, Microwave and electric cooker. Kitchen small but usable. Bathroom was well proportioned with Electric shower over bath and Electric towel rail. Considering all electric features, electricity had to be paid for by electric key card ( £1, £3 and £5 cards purchased from reception or bar/ restaurant). Did considerable amount of cooking ( breakfasts & dinners) and Electric hot water used twice a day only used around £1 per day electricity which considered not bad at all.
Only negative features of the chalet was that the bed was very uncomfatable and my partner had a bad back after 1 week. The sofa/bed in the lounge area was also uncomfatable and you kept sliding off it. Had to stick 2 pillows under the front to stop sliding off it.
Had around 3 evening meals ( 2 carvery main meals) at the restaurant in the camp and found them to be very good and not to expensive for a holiday place. Good service by serving staff. Barman very friendly and helpful.

Although did not use the entertainment offered in the evenings, the sort of thing offered in the weekly brochure looked very entertaining. Made use of the indoor swimming pool whilst there. Not too many people using it when I visited but considering out of school holidays season, possibly why.
Asked if we would go back again, the answer is a definite YES!!!!!

Just returned from Devon Valley after experiencing problems with both the chalet and food. On arrival we were shown into a topper chalet which reeked of cat pee. On complaining we were eventually moved with bad grace into another chalet only to find that the bathroom reeked of urine which got worse throughout our stay - possibly due to a leaking soil pipe which had caused the flooring to come apart. The standard of cleanliness was appalling, with stained sheets, hairs all over the duvets, mould in the fridge, dirt in the electric cupboard.
We went half board to find that the evening meals although not exciting were plentiful and homely meals served hot, however breakfasts were another matter with cold cooked breakfasts for 3 mornings running and sour milk for 2 mornings. By the last day we complained to the assistant manager but felt that we were not really taken seriously. Some staff definitely need to go on Customer Service training.
Not all bad though the entertainment for 2 nights was extremely good. Some staff were very efficient and helpful, but management seemed to dislike them giving too good a service especially for half boarders giving us the feeling that we were second class citizens. Be aware if you go to Devon Valley you will need to take plenty of cleaning materials including a mop and bucket, disinfectant and air freshener!

Room Tip: Dont go to this park!

Stayed in an otter supreme caravan on the riverside. Great location and clean as always. Enjoyed catching up with many friends who we meet year after year of all ages. Have already booked for next year. The nature activity was brilliant the salmon were leaping which also attracted many birds onto the estuary. Each and every member of staff old and new were polite and courteous at all times. The entertainments team worked exceptionally hard also. It is not an all action park but there is always something to do. It is in an excellent location for access to local attractions. This was our 27th year at this site but we love the location and are always made to feel welcome.

Room Tip: Spend the extra and go to a caravan as electric is metered in the chalets so overall your holiday wi...

This is definitely a family oriented resort. Nice and safe for the kids and an entertainment team on hand to keep them occupied. The caravan we stayed in was fine although it was beginning to look a little 'tired' with a few missing or peeling strips of laminate edging on the cabinets - but this isn't surprising at the end of a busy season. Reception was reasonably efficient but somewhat 'cold' with not much response.
The Boathouse restaurant was really good value and had great food that we really enjoyed on both occasions when we ate in. They also had a takeaway which wasn't bad value for money.
An evenings entertainment comprises of an hour or so entertainment for the kids (pretty naff for adults but great for youngsters), a bingo session, a quiz and an hour or so's show for the adults at 10 p.m. followed by a disco. The two adult shows we watched were reasonable (the resident entertainers' Glee session was excellent) but spoiled for us by tired kids still running around after 10 pm. I think they should make kids leave after 10 p.m.
There was a pub next to the Boathouse restaurant and a bar in the entertainment centre where the entertainment was located with drinks at reasonable prices. Also in the entertainment centre was a small snack bar serving at all hours.
getting to the site from any side is quite challenging along a couple of miles of single track road with occasional passing points and some locals seem to think they have right of way - so beware when driving around those tight corners.
All-in-all, a good holiday for the money.

Room Tip: We had a caravan close to the restaurant / pub / reception and didn't find it noisy, although th...

Just back from our second holiday at Devon Valley and already booked again for next year! We stayed in an "otter super" caravan, overlooking the Teign estuary. What's not to like about this lovely little holiday village? The site is well maintained, there are always staff going round litter picking. The staff are friendly, the quality of food in the restaurant this year was better than last year, when we had cause to complain about one meal. The caravan itself was showing signs of wear and tear, nothing major and mainly cosmetic, for example the edging was detached from several shelves. that was about the extent of visible wear and tear. the shop on site was better stocked this year, although the prices were noticeably higher. We never used the entertainment passes, so can't comment on the quality of entertainment. Reception staff were friendly and efficient. Our caravan was ready for occupation even though we arrived 2 hours before the official check in time. It may well be that the park wasn't fully occupied the week before our arrival and possibly the caravan hadn't been occupied.
The caravan itself - apart from the previous comment about the shelves, was clean and tidy. the caravan comes with a family sized fridge / freezer, an adequate microwave, 2 slice toaster and a full size cooker, and kettle, plus, of course a full complement of plates, cutlery, mugs, glasses, etc., although one needs to be aware that there is only one shelf in the oven and only one oven tray, so it's difficult to cook a full meal in the oven. The fridge / freezer in our particular caravan was noisy, to the point of being irritating, we probably should have reported it! In addition to the kitchen equipment the caravan has a TV, although the signal and therefore the picture are a bit iffy, it was perfectly watchable. there is also a DVD player. The main bedroom is well appointed with a dressing table and stool and plentiful storage and it's own toilet and wash basin. The second bedroom is really only suited to kids, there being 2 narrow singles with just enough space to walk sideways between them. It does have adequate storage, with a wardrobe and overhead lockers. The main shower room is OK, the shower is adequate, although a tip is to ensure the boiler is turned to maximum temperature and maximum flow rate, otherwise the chances are the shower will not run hot. The living area is well equipped with comfy sofa's, a family sized table and four chairs. In nice weather it is possible to sit out on the verandah at the side of the caravan on the patio chairs provided with the "super" caravans. Both bedrooms have electric "warm air" heaters built into the wardrobe plinths, these are fan heaters and as such are quite noisy and don't seem to be thermostatically controlled.
The site is a little out of the way and a car is essential. For off park shopping there is a Morrisons supermarket just across the estuary, as well as the local shops of Teignmouth.
I would thoroughly recommend this holiday village to anyone.
One tip - Villas on the whole seem to get the majority of bad reviews, some of them do appear dated from the outside and of course one has to purchase electricity cards for them, whereas caravans have a gas cooker, boiler and fire and all heating / lighting costs are included in the price.
Caravans 207 - 212 are situated in an elevated position overlooking the estuary, all have outside verandahs with patio furniture. Given the choice I would always try to get one of those caravans.

Room Tip: caravans 207 - 212 offer the best views.

Stayed in a topper chalet, lovely and clean, plenty of room for us 3 adults and a 13 year old, only used £4 electric all the time we were there, location is lovely, went in to torquay for the beach and into babbacombe, little beach there where you can hire paddle boats for £10 half hour, would definately go again, if you go you won,t be dissappointed.

Room Tip: Topper chalet, one of the cheapest but we were happy
