The atmosphere was relaxed. The service was professional without being intrusive. Each course was well crafted and the flavours delicately considered. I'd recommend for a special occasion or for those who like good food honestly cooked.

My first visit to Ode - but not my last ! Tim Bouget and his team have gone all-out to prepare and present the most sublime, locally sourced food . Do not be put off by the close tables and simple decor ,the food more than makes up for it ! Very attentive, courteous and welcoming staff, the chef himself appears from time to time to chat to and advise customers on the menu and wines should they have any queries, retreating back to his kitchen to work his magic. All the courses were phenominal in taste and presentation ,an absolute delight to all the senses, how they haven't 2 Michelin stars I'll never know -it's only a matter of time ! Bravo the Ode team.

The big surprise at this restaurant is not seeing a Michelin 2-star sign in the window! This is food preparation and presentation of the highest standard. Meticulous care is taken in producing very imaginative dishes combining excellent flavours and textures. Our meal began beautifully with an exceptional 'amuse bouche' of concentrated butternut squash soup accompanied by a delicious tapenade and continued with a perfect starter of crusted John Dory, followed by a main course of delightfully succulent fallow deer. Neither the cheese plate nor the deserts are to be missed! Service is welcoming and informative - the Chef himself somehow found time to provide a greeting and to talk about the menu. A most enjoyable evening. Thoroughly recommended.

We always celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, events.. well anything really....by dining out in the finest restaurants when we lived in London. Hence continuing this tradition we went to ODE in Shaldon, our new home, for my birthday. It was the first night of opening after a month's closure, chef's holiday I think, so we thought it might be a bit rough around the edges. Front of house was missing so we were served by Chef himself, Tim Bouget. He apologised in advance but there was no need. The restaurant is intimate and a delight. Not many covers on this opening night but any rustiness Chef might have perceived in himself on the serving side was missed by us. The meal, and we had all three courses, was designed, prepared and cooked to the highest standard. I won't go through the menu, look it up, but a John Dory starter with sweet and sourcarrots, fennel salad, sultanas and mussel sauce (how do they think this up) was stunning - so was the main and the sweet - well - mandarin and honeycomb parfait, mallows and sesame crisp - beyond description.
We have eaten at the ODE cafe many times - try both for a great experience. But if you don't have time - then don't miss ODE dining
