We originally stayed in 2013 but unfortunately we had to complain about another guest and the noise disturbance which ruined our stay. Our complaint was dealt with very quickly and we were offered a complimentary stay at a later date. We've just returned from our complimentary stay and this time it was a fantastic experience. Our room felt very luxurious, with views of the moor and a large ensuite. The service was fantastic and we had no problems with noise during the night. In fact we had the best nights sleep in a long time! The food was also very good. My husband also went fly fishing and I think this completed the experience. Their reputation for fishing instruction can not be faulted. We hope to return again next year.

Room Tip: The newly refurbished rooms in the hotel are fantastic. Room 17 has lovely views of the moor with a...

We returned to The Arundel Arms (my husbands having booked a special weekend for our wedding anniversary some years ago) with high hopes and sadly were let down by our room and the service. Sadly, we shall not be returning. The management of this hotel need to take a serious look at staffing and quality of service. And more especially the attention to detail in their rooms. To be frank, dust, mildew, and dirt were highly evident particularly in the bathroom. The door to
to the bathroom had dirty hand marks around the door handle which quite frankly looked like they had been there for quite some time. In a rural area like this you expect they laude that you can expect first class service but sadly the local staff ( who can be overbearing and condescending) especially when you do not see eye to eye, do not understand the expectations and quite frankly the service expected of this hotel.

We've stayed here before and were drawn back by a very good Sunday night offer. This included a 5 course tasting menu and an excellent breakfast. Dinner was not gourmet but very good with some excellent Brixham scallops complete with their lovely orange roes. (Why do some chefs take these off?).Our room was quiet and spacious with a view of the garden as well as Dartmoor hills. Lifton used to be on the main road to Cornwall but is now a quiet village famed for Ambrosia and as a stopping point on the Trafalgar Way. (The horseman taking the message of Nelson's victory to London from Falmouth!)
Noted for excellent local river fishing you can arrange lessons here if you fancy your hand. Close by is Lydford Gorge and the Cornish border but for a brief getaway the locals walks are all you need. We'll come again.

Room Tip: Avoid the front which will have some light traffic.

The hotel is lovely, beautifully furnished, like a gentleman's country house, beautiful secret gardens, great food and very pleasant staff. We stayed in the self contained Fishermans cottage which is attached to the hotel, very clean and well equipped, wish we'd had a longer stay. We were there for a family wedding which was also held at the hotel, highly recommend the venue for a wedding too, faultless.

We stayed for one night in a classic double room which was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The quality of the food both at dinner and breakfast was exceptionally good and the atmosphere in the dinning room was relaxing with attentive service.

We have given it a 4* as some aspects of the room and areas of the hotel could do with a cosmetic touch up but overall we had a lovely time and we would definitely return.

Room Tip: If you go for a large double room then you would have the space and comfort to relax in there if the...

The hotel is in a lovely setting and the room was clean with a pretty view. The receptionist when checking in was friendly and helpful. We ate in the pub next door and the food was home cooked, very tasty and plentiful.

It was all going so well until I got a very abrupt wake up at 6am when there was an air lock in my radiator. I tried calling reception but there was no reply so I had to get up and search someone out! Easier said than done but I did eventually find someone hoovering. The man kindly came to look and after going off and coming back with some tools he did fix it. A much earlier rise than I expected and to boot no hot water when I tried the shower!

When it came to check out the receptionist was very rude. She didn't even say good morning or acknowledge me , just putting the bill on the desk. This was a very disappointing end to a stay that started so well!

Our son bought his father a surprise gourmet night at the hotel for his 80th birthday we added an extra day to make it into a mini break. What a bonus! The hotel is very comfortable, staff friendly and very accommodating and the food was wonderful a memorable birthday present. We also were able to go to nearby Cothele for the day so thank you Arundell arms for a perfect two days
