“A Gourmet Night.”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

My wife and I and Two dear friends took advantage of a special offer, for one nights accommodation with breakfast plus, the Gourmet taster menu. we also elected to partake of the Wine to match each course offer. We were all of us delighted, the Hotel is lovely the food superb and the wine perfectly complimented each dish. The service we received was nothing short of exemplary.
This Hotel also offers Fishing on beautiful rivers and a very pretty lake. Guess what I'll be doing on my next visit, because rest assured I will be going back. It would be churlish not to.
What a superb place, thank you to all the management and staff.

Room Tip: They're all good

Dear pjfj

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your gourmet break here. We are incredibly proud of our restaurant and Chef here and have won many awards to testify what a great product we have here.

I would be delighted if you came back during our summer months to try out some fishing. We have 20 miles of water for fishing, and of course as you mention our own lake so I am sure you will find a nice relaxing spot somewhere!!

The Arundell Arms is not an elegant manor house set in fine grounds. It is right on the road in an unremarkable village yet is has a great deal to offer. The dining room is surprisingly elegant. It would not be out of place in a stately home. Our bedroom and bathroom were very warm on a freezing March day and the log fire in the lounge was welcoming. We enjoyed a pre dinner glass of champagne with our canapés, the five course dinner that followed did not disappoint. My assessment is based on a Travelzoo deal.

Room Tip: Our room at the back of the hotel was very quiet.

Dear 100RLB

Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your first paragraph really does sum us up. We have often been described as a 'Tardis' and people coming in to this old coaching inn are amazed by the size of it, in particular our light and airy dining room. From the roadside one doesn't expect to find such a large and elegant dining room. I am so pleased that you enjoyed that about our hotel, and really do hope that you will return to us in the future.

Best wishes, Adam Fox-Edwards

My fiance and I have just returned from a two night stay on a Travelzoo offer. We paid £129 for B&B. a five course tasting menu for two and pre-dinner champagne and canapes. We also added in a second night B&B stay for £70. A lot of places who offer these types of deals have a ton of restrictions and some treat you like second class citizens. I'm happy to report that everyone at the Arundell Arms was friendly, professional and welcomed us like any other customer.

The room was lovely, the food was absolutely fantastic, the wine list was top notch and the whole hotel was really inviting and comfortable, particularly the gorgeous dining room and the cosy sitting room with real fire! My only frustration was the noise from the upstairs bedrooms and from the external door - we were across the car park in room 23 and we would definitely ask for an upstairs room next time. Our only other comment would be on the £20 pp wine flight to go with the tasting menu - good value but the red wine didn't match the main course at all and the dessert wine just missed the mark too. Only in our humble opinion of course!

We know we got a good deal but because we were treated so well, we bought drinks, an evening meal on the second night, something from the gift shop and even an afternoon's fishing lesson! So it was a win win situation all round and we'll definitely look out for a similar offer in the future.

Room Tip: If you're in the building across from the main hotel, ask for a room upstairs!

Dear KatyGreenbank,

Many thanks to you for leaving a review on us. I am really pleased that you didn't feel as though you had been treated any different than any other guest on the deal you were on. We would never treat our guest in such a way either. For us the whole purpose of running deals such as TravelZoo are to show what The Arundell Arms is capable of and what we are all about.

Once again many thanks for your review and we certainly hope to see you here again.

Best wishes, Adam Fox-Edwards

The welcome was warm as was the lovely log fire in the lounge. Bedrooms are clean and comfortable. Our bathroom was a little small but this was made up for by the huge, soft bath towels.
The dining room is a grand room, well furnished with a lot of natural light. We had the 5 course taster menu which was interesting, well cooked and attractively presented. The final course was sticky toffee pudding and whilst light and delicious, it was somehow 'out of step' with the rest of the menu. Possibly because it was such a huge portion.
Breakfast did not disappoint. a good selection and freshly cooked.

Dear young grandad

I'm really pleased that you enjoyed your break here with us. Our log fires have been a God send during this ever lasting winter, and the sticky toffee pudding a welcome dessert! I do hope you get to visit us again in the summer months where you will be able to make use of our garden and enjoy some fresh seasonal produce on our menu!!

Dear David T,

Thank you for your review. I am really pleased that both you and your party of friends enjoyed your break here with us. We have seen lots of groups of friends gathering here at The Arundell Arms recently. With the recent cold snap I think our log fires and comfy lounge sofas have been a real draw!

Many thanks again, Adam Fox-Edwards

We don't fish but we are country, hunting shooting people, very saddened that unless you fish this place does not want to know you, staff were off hand, food was excellent but not served in friendly manner.

Will not bother to come back or tell anyone else to go. Very sad.

Dear VexedFoxy

Thank you for taking the time to review us. I note from your review that you stayed in December. Our fishing season is in fact closed in December, and our hotel is full of shooters. I was very surprised that you didn't pick up on this being a 'hunting shooting' type person yourself. As we are the no.1 sporting hotel in Devon this does mean that we cover shooting as part of our sporting background. And of course if non fishermen weren't as welcome as anyone else in our hotel we would simply close when out of fishing season. Our most recent reviews also testify that 'foodies' are welcome here also, as well as any other guest who chooses to visit us.

I am very sorry you didn't fell as welcomed as all of our other guests. Please however, do feel free to contact me at the hotel to discuss why this was.

Kindest regards, Adam Fox-Edwards

Stayed a couple of nights on a dinner bed and breakfast deal.

Restaurant and bar meals are excellent.

We had a large room which was scheduled for a refit, that said it was very comfortable, totally clean and quiet with bath robes etc.

Hotel has a pleasant friendly feel to it and all the staff are charming, attentive and helpful.

Plenty of fly fishing from this hotel so an ideal base to give things a try.

Room Tip: Probably worth paying extra for a large room, this guarantees a garden view rather than a road view

Dear electricheater

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay here an our food. We are lucky enough to have our kitchen run by a Master Chef of Great Britain.

The bedroom you stayed in is due to be refurbished, the date is booked in our diary which we are all very excited about! Be sure to ask for the same room should you visit us again so that you can see the difference!

Kind regards, Adam Fox-Edwards
