“Perfect venue for our 25th Anniversary”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012 via mobile

We stayed at this wonderful hotel for one night on 21 November as a special celebration & it exceeded our expectations. A warm welcome set the theme for a delightful stay. Every member of the hotel team could not have made us feel more at home. The food was exceptional . Sadly the stormy weather conditions made exploration of the wonderful grounds impossible but the ambience within the hotel compensated. We would thoroughly recommend a visit to this gem. We shall certainly return.

Dear DevonBobby,

we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay here with us. Hopefully you will be able to return in the summer months when the garden is in full bloom! Don't forget to take a trip down to our lake which is simply stunning on a nice sunny day!
Best wishes,
Adam Fox-Edwards

As always, whenever we go, we receive first class and courteous service. The hotel lounge with its squiggy sofas, log fire and polished stone floor and not forgetting the ticking of the grand clock, is the perfect place for an afternoon tea, morning coffee, or just to read the paper. The rooms are well furnished and ensuite and the beds are the best. I don't know what we'd do without the Arundell Arms, it's our bolt hole.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden are away from the road.

An overnight stay specifically to participate in the seasonal Game Festival Dinner. This was extremely good, the food ans service excellent, and a very good ambience in the beautiful dining room.
From the outside this hotel does not look too attractive, fronting directly onto the pavement of this small village. But inside it is very nice, the rear enclosed gardens (including the original Cock Fighting Pit) are magnificent. In summer time they would be excellent for dining.
This hotel is reknowned for its fishing; it runs special trout fly fishing courses,. In addition they put on special events on (it seems) about a monthly basis.
Access from the nearby main trunk route to Cornwall makes this an hotel we shall visit again - for another of their special events.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the garden

Dear gwenday,

Thank you for your kind review. I am glad you enjoyed our Game Season Celebration Dinner. The dinner is always our most popular winter dining event and our chefs always appreciate feedback. Hopefully you will return to enjoy more of our events in the future!
Kind regards

It may have been cold and wet outside but inside we were welcomed to an atmosphere of warmth and cosyness. The staff must be on 'happy pills', without exception they were friendly and had a positive 'can do' attitude. We had our three dogs with us, they had a wonderful time ( especially in front of the log fire ) and enjoyed meeting staff and guests alike. A real home from home, clean, spacious rooms, lots of parking, a thoroughly nice experience. We would definately return if only for the chef's chocolate puddings, yummy.

Dear patriciaannevans, thank you for your review. I am pleased to report that our staff are not on happy pills (that we are aware of at least!) We are very lucky to have mostly local staff and are very proud of them. We have a valued team, some of which have been here for more than 30 years which certainly helps keep our 'warm family feel' at the hotel. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us, and will look forward to welcoming you back.

Kindest regards

Adam

An ideal location to visit the north and south coast as well as easy driving to the moors. This is an established hotel that is welcoming and comfortable. It is a centre of excellence for fishing and other country pursuits so it is well used. The bar is being refurbished and the restaurant is traditionally laid out with a good dining and breakfast menu. You will not go hungry. The hotel staff make it easy to stay there with old fashioned attention that is a credit. This is a nice place to get away from plastic and chain hotels and worthy of a visit.

Best wishes,

My husband and I had booked into another three star hotel for our anniversary. However, the hotel was really poor so we checked out and found the Arundell Arms. We couldn't believe the two hotels were the same star rating. The Arundell Arms is a beautiful, cosy and atmospheric place. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room which was lovely with little touches like biscuits, dressing gowns and toiletries. We booked into the hotel for dinner and it was absolutely fantastic - what a talented chef! The (French?) waiter was brilliant - obviously very knowledgeable without being patronising and really hospitable and attentive. After dinner we took our drinks into the lounge area and sat in front of a crackling fire on a squashy sofa - bliss. The breakfast the following morning was delicious and there was a wide choice and so much of it that we didn't need any lunch. I am so glad we were bold enough to leave the hotel we were meant to be in and instead stayed at the Arundell Arms - will definitely be returning.

Dear KRfromCornwall,

Thank you for your review and kind comments. We are delighted that you found us and very glad that you enjoyed your stay. The French waiter you refer to is Stephan and is from Romania, however he is fluent in French!
We very much look forward to welcoming back to the hotel in the near future.

This is a Mecca for fishermen and sporting people. Family run since the early 1960s the mantle haas passed to Anne Voss Bark's son who maintains the same very high standards, Welcome, service food and rooms were all superb. The wine list is well chosen and not unduly expensive. It was a tonic and a great pleasure to stay there.
