Owner description: The striking Start Point Lighthouse is situated on one of the most exposed peninsulas on the English Coast, running sharply almost a mile into the sea on the south side of Start Bay between Kingsbridge and Dartmouth.

Gentle sloping walk down to the lighthouse with fabulous views over all of Start Bay. Fascinating historic building, beautifully maintained by Trinity. Also holiday cottages for rental.
Wonderful Mattiscombe Beach just along the coast a steep walk down but very secluded and worth while!

Pricey parking and pricey for what it is but great views and some very good walking along the cliff paths

We took our grandchildren aged 10 and 7 to the lighthouse based on a recommend from the tourist information office in Kingsbridge. The cost to park was £3.50 which is very reasonable for a full day. There is a walk of about 1 mile to the lighthouse along a tarmac path with spectacular views of the coastline. I was doubtful if the children would find this interesting but the guide was fantastic involving all the children on the tour and engaging them in a competition to count the steps. The tour lasted about 40 minutes and for a family ticket the cost of £12 was very good value. I would thoroughly recommend this visit. Flip flops are not allowed due to the steep steps so shoes are required but light shoes are available to borrow at the lighthouse. Not open on Friday or Saturday.

Passed the lighthouse on a day it was open for tours - really glad I did. £4 for 45 minute tour - very informative and great views from the top! Highly recommended.

Unfortunately the day we decided to visit the lighthouse it was a little foggy but still a great day and the guide was really nice. Very young children who need a hand to hold will not be aloud to enter the lighthouse due to the steep steps ( hight restrictions as well, check website ). But we really enjoyed the tour. I feel it was worth the walk down ( and back up !! ). Give it a go :-)
